Ive read on here that they are some where ? I need pictures our diagrams as to where they are at. This is my first Subaru and its a bit odd. Im a mechanic in the army so I know how to turn a wrench and im pretty handy with a multi meter. trying to figure out why my drivers auto seat belt wont work. Any help would be great! 987687 Posted January 17, 2011 Share Posted January 17, 2011 There's relays for it on the floor to the right of the passenger's seat. It's under some plastic trim. The computer that controls it is in the trunk. If it's a sedan, it's mounted up between the speakers. Sorta under the 3rd brake light. We might even be able to point you at threads similar to you that include diagnosing tips and resolutions. Why do you think Subaru was "smoking" something? It is a complicated system, but it is one that was Federally mandated in the US. It is actually pretty simple in concept: A motor that powers a "mousetrack" that moves the belt latch. A sensor at the front of the track that tells the controller if the "mouse" (latch) is all the way forwards. A sensor at the back/Latchpoint that tells the controller if the "mouse is all the way back in latching position. Door sensors that tell when the door is opened and closed. (I think that there are also seat sensors for when seats are occupied) A controller, that has the logic and the power relays that control the motor. Personally, I dislike them. I dunno but all the other cars ive delt with had Relays that where easy to get to and well marked. I used the working passenger side to figure out the sensors. their is also one in the latch on the door. I hated them in my eclipse GSX and I hate them on the subaru but to have it working would be great. im not getting any power to the motor so its probably a sensor not working ? 1982gl4 Posted January 19, 2011 Share Posted January 19, 2011 Are your hazards working? Mine were not and the seat belts didn't work. They run off the same fuse. It's one of them in the fuse box under the hood. And the computer that controls them is under the drivers side rear speaker I believe. (I looked into this thinking mine was something more than a fuse ) Also when I was doing some research, other members told me they could have stopped working due to corrosion in connectors that are on the passengers side of the vehicle under a trim panel. I would think swapping the belts would be a good idea. That's what I did with my old Loyal, and it was so much better.
