xtrememotorwork
Ok so I figured out the no power to the coil on my 86 Gl, now trying to figure out why my rear running light work fine until the headlights are turned on then the go extremely dim. Next would be the car starts up on choke fine, then it dies right after it comes of choke and wont idle. 2k rpm and above it runs just fine. Car had cruise and that has been removed along with half the emission crap. Getting a service manual today but thought i would see what you guys have to say? Qman
Sounds like ground problems. Sounds like they removed a ground or two. Check all ground locations for good connections and clean grounds.
GeneralDisorder
For the idling - check for power to the idle cut solenoid when running - that wire sometimes gets bent and cracked, etc. If it has no power it will shut off the idle circuit in the carb. I agree on the grounds - there are some critical one's under the dash area that ground the light relays, etc. And also check your fusible links and your battery terminals, etc. Common places for problems.
