cookees
I have a customer that wants to trade a 96 Legacy L with the 2.2 engine in on a motorscooter. I'm thinking I might like to add this to the stable. My concern is the "bad rap" that Suburus seem to have with respect to overheating. I've been told that this condition is most preveliant on the 2.5 engine. Is the 2.2 also affected with this condition? Thanks in advance.
92_rugby_subie
The 2.5 has headgasket issues. The new updated headgaskets (available at the Subaru dealership) solve this issue, or at least keep it from happening as much. The 2.2 is a bulletproof motor, non interference and not so much of a headgasket issue, just take care of it, regular oil changes, spark plugs, etc, keep in maintained, Im sure somewhere on here there was a guy doing maintenance on his Legacy with 300k+ miles... Ionlyhave3suubs
The 2.5 motor is more prone to headgasket failure than the 2.2 is. Headgasket failure is a common overheating cause. Very few of the 2.2 engines have headgasket issues.
GeneralDisorder
That's an excelent car and an excelent year. Can't lose with the non-interferance 2.2 They do not have any issues with overheating or a history of head gasket issues unless abused. Typically they go 300k+ miles when maintained and never blow a head gasket. GD
