Mine snapped at the other end, where it goes to the threaded rod to the clutch fork. The cable isn't going to break, any place a cable is connected at the end is going to be a weak spot.

The clutch cable is pretty easy to replace, just make sure you reroute the new one the same way, or you'll put excess stress on it, and it will only last a few thousand miles. I suggest routing the new cable alongside the old one before taking it out, that way you know it's in there right. That is, assuming your old one is routed correctly...

did the clutch feel tighter than normal or it should be? i had one like that a few years ago that also broke a clutch cable or two. someone had added a really big spring in the engine bay to "assist" it and i removed that spring. then i think i reinstalled it later. i have no idea why it was tight, i put a ton of miles on that car and it drove perfectly with no other issues.

 

+1 to routing and installing it correctly. i can't recall what i did wrong but i installed one wrong once at the pin side by the pedal. pulled it off and reinstalled because it didn't look right. unfortunately it was long enough ago i can't recall how i installed it wrong.

but I would have to worry about the bolt falling out again and again because the other end is pressed closed (maybe not right term) but it happened right as soon as i got off the exit from my job this morning I was like aww crap not this again.

 

but it did not have the feel of when a cable snaps (feeling tight and loud snap)

 

I got out looked under the hood and it was fine.. then I went up to look and that's when I saw it sheered right off.

That's kind of ridiculous it sheered like that. You could put a bolt, or anything in there just to get you home. But I agree, running it like that permanently might not be so permanent.

 

Clutch cable snapping does have it's distinct symptoms... haha. I was shifting into 1st gear to leave work parking lot. BANG, car jerked, engine stalled, clutch stuck to floor...

yeah too bad I don't have any bolts in the car but it was hell trying to get into 3rd it's really hard when you have a worn bushing and when it finally goes in i gotta blip the throttle again. But when mine first popped I was parked forward in a parking spot about 50 miles from home.. I would of driven it home but it was rush house and I would have to head back over the GWB and bronx it would of been way too many starts and stops for me... But I never forget the sound when it did pop.. but the funny thing is it never did feel like it was binding when it did let go.

 

I also learned something don't try to start in reverse because I stalled and I had to push myself forward a little to get myself out of reverse.

OEM or is it garbage parts store stock?

 

the part in the picture was from rock auto almost lasted 5 months.. the dealer would not have it in until Monday.. I have a meeting on Saturday besides if the OEM cable broke it's not like they were going to give me a refund or a free replacement.

only took about 15-20 min to put the cable back in.. I wish I could have a nice light feeling cable like that for the life if the cable.

 

I think my trying to get it in gear on the highway in 4th it feels a little funny it takes more effort to take it out of gear then pushing it in.

 

tranny fluid for sure is going to need to be changed
