SoobGoob
Hey guys just rejoined the Subaru world again tonight. Bought myself a 1977 dl coupe. Very VERY straight. Almost no rust just one small hole on one fender the rest are 100% solid. 5spd 2wd pictures soon to come
SoobGoob
so there is no title. was told the car is a 77 but after looking at this http://www.oldcaronline.com/ocdetail115631.htm then at this http://www.oldparkedcars.com/2010/08/1976-subaru-dl-sport-coupe-sedan-leone.html?showComment=1281245978347 i am not sure exactly what year this is. if that first link is a 77 for sure the car i bought is not a 77. can anyone tell me a little more about the ea71s or is this a ea63? 1.6L has anyone ever tried putting an ej engine and transmission in this? what is involved with a 4wd swap? im sure i would have to remove the gas tank and custom mount the rear diff.... hmmm
moosens
Lots of time and money to make it 4WD. Yours is a Stage I which can indeed be a 1977. The later half saw the Stage II which looks like the '78-9. Have fun with it and pass it along to someone who'll appreciate it as is. You can only have them in original condition once. When things pick up you'll be able to get your money back and then some and have $$$ for your real 4WD project. You'd be wasting a classic and only get laughed at anyways unless you unload huge money to make it something that'll be special to you for like ...a couple of runs. If it has a 1400 it's probably pre-'77 , check the date on the door jamb. Check the engine casting for EA63 or 71. Have fun!
SoobGoob
What about 2wd ej? I don't wanna ruin a classic but I want a more Modern drive train in a classi looking car. Gave up a newer gti for this. Best decision ever hah!
moosens
I love my '92 FWD 2.2 No oposition here. I'm all for keeping the bodystyle on the road in the most efficient and sensible manner possible and uh ....that'd be it !!! Good luck and please post pics of progress. I've seen Subafreak stuff that 2,2 into a Gen I Brat but he hasn't finished it yet.
SoobGoob
has anyone beisdes him had any experience with this swap?
moosens
I'm not positive but I think so. Maybe start another post about that and see who chimes in ... ? Also going to need some mods. Consider that the 2.2 has the 5lug wheels , would need to swap axles , or some frankenstein axle deal , which I recall hearing about too. Would be cool to have the 14's all around. They'd fill those wheel arches and look pretty btchin. Also give you many more options for tires. I see you just sent a PM ... be right there. moosens
Fuel delivery would have to be an issue. Would need some pressure for the MPFI. Stay stock for now untill you get something definite to work off of.
SoobGoob
Do you know anything about fitting rear discs on a gen1? I have an old set or ea82 discs laying around
Turbone
Get a hold of Rallitec in PDX. I think they were thinking/talking about a project like this last year.
