myttom
My sons 84 4x4 GL hatch recently started running rough. I changed the rotor and dist cap and it ran like a charm for a little while then got bad again. I then changed the spark plugs, wires and coil, it ran fine for a while then started again. I have come to the conclusion that it is not in fact related to the ignition as it ran fine on the way to the grocery store just now and terrible on the way back! It makes no difference if it is hot or cold. It idles very smoothly however lacks torque when taking off and cuts out when running. The strange thing is that it stops and starts without warning or pattern, one minute it runs great the next its hard to get through a stoplight. Any one have any ideas? Thanks for your time, Tom

gbianchi
Heres my idea, the distributor itself, does your tach ever jump? All those symptoms point to a worn disty bushing, I am living your story to a T, all thats left to try for me is replacing the dist, but its to cold at this time to do. Good luck winning that problem, cheers..............G:headbang:
