1-3-2-4
Quick question.. my car did not have maplights but one of whatever 3 owners wanted a aftermarket sunroof installed (ASC) anyways the switch and all would be in the way of the maplight but question is if I get to the area were the maplight would be would i find the connections to one or would it be empty? Oh and here is the switch for the sunroof.. I wonder if it's possible to move it a little more out of the way..
bheinen74
That s unfortunate. Map lights are important for stuff like looking at maps in S. Chicago at night. Do you have a tach even? Those kind of things were standard on the 94 and older ones....Guess they didnt think it was necessary for that car to have map lights.

Fairtax4me
If you get a map light there should be enough room on the panel for you to mount the sunroof controls, but then you might have a hole in your head liner. From what I know about these cars, they run wiring for pretty much every option in all of the cars, they just don't put in the components. If nothing else, pull the rubber trim off and you can pull down the head liner by the sun roof opening and look to see if the wiring is there. How wide is the map light? about 8 1/2" it would be nice to be able to leave it in it's same place AND put the maplight in but then it would be off center

1-3-2-4
I just found this one on google search http://www.subaruoutback.org/forums/80-electrical-electronics/31257-1996-obw-map-light-mod.html#post310013
TheLoyale
There is no wiring for the Maplight stuffed in the roof, it would run under the dash, up the A-pillar and over to the roof. Thats why I tapped into the 12v power from the dome light. You will only find two tapped holes for the Maplight mounting screws.
bheinen74
I still have a hard time stomaching the fact that something that was standard on all Legacy models from 90-94, was dropped off due to cost savings. I could see it in the Impreztel line, but the Legacy, come on. Now, I hope Subaru will make a impretzel 2 dr fwd model with no maplights in the 2012 model year, with a 1.5L that gets 45mpg... yay that would be cheap to buy. But, no they wont do it for us here. Hope you get your map lights, i Just saw St Louis was the worst rated town for crime, need map lights here i go there so often. Also of the top 10 worst cities for crime, 4 were where i live. KC, St Loius, Detroit, MNpls. all on the list. I need map lights to get the F out of those places after night baseball games, and a map light could save my life, your life, etc.
1-3-2-4
yeah it's crazy how they did it before.. Anyways I this morning ordered the maplight on ebay from an 02 WRX Now I will get to see for myself how much hacking I need to do to get the heatsinks to fit. I would of used 10 mm rebel LED's but they came from Canada which made my cost a little higher. If I'm lucky today I can do the dome light project today
johnceggleston
cars101.com does not list a map light as an option for any of the 95 models. how ever, there is a sunroof option for the L and LS, LSi. my 97 sun roof control has a map light built into it. is the same true for 95? would it be possible to use the subaru sunroof control w/ map light for the after market sun roof.? might work. 1-3-2-4
I never could find any pictures of the backside of any with the sunroof controls and i did not want to risk having with the controls without a working switches.. my aftermarket switches are lighted too.. I have a diagram for it but unknown if it's my model or an older one. Would be really sweet if I could get it to work with the stock subaru..i mean really in it's basic way it's closing the connection to start the motor.. things only get odd when you don't know if it's just a pure push button or has some type of micro control along with it. I don't want to pull on the A-pillar since I hear those clips like to break this is the only one I saw http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/SUBARU-LEGACY-OVERHEAD-DOME-MAP-LIGHT-04-USED-_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQhashZitem3f07040324QQitemZ270700643108QQptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories Edited February 18, 2011 by 1-3-2-

1-3-2-4
Ok while my map lights are not here yet the rest of the stuff for the dome light is and I took the dome light out but I see nothing running up to where the front map lights would be.. I see no way to get to them without having to remove the side A pillars to get the headliner down.
1-3-2-4
the led's for the map lights when they come.. wont be as bright as the dome light but still about 3-7% brighter then the little bulbs that come with it.
