one eye
Can you run a gen 3 fuel pump on a switch? I had a bit of a wiring issue on butters where some things go grounded out, and now the fuel pump doesnt work anymore, the little box under the dash is good and I have spark but no power the the fuel pump. I wanna know if thsi is a bad idea Ive done it on gen 1's before but not on Gen3's let me know what you think or will it jsut fill up the carb? nickolai
I would say try it as long as you've got a fuel return line to the tank. I had the same issue in my 88 DL where the fuel pump was getting no power. I ran a new wire to it that turns hot when the key in ON and haven't had trouble. First I had a carbed ea81, and now an ea82 w/SPFI in the car. No trouble with either - I do have a return line.
NorthWet
IMHO, not a good idea as a long term thing. All the control gizmos are there as a safegaurd in case of accident.
ruparts
hi, i think the fuel pump is grounded inside the ECM, at least for fuel injected models, i had a 87 sedan with fuel inj that the fuel pump quit working. i thought it was not getting power but , i found it was getting power ( turn the key on and it had power for a couple of seconds) that is normal . if you cranked the motor over it had power continually , turned out it was a bad ground in the ecm. i made a separate ground to the body right by the pump and it was fine ever since.
