mickytrus
Hello, Yeah, I picked up a 91 loyale for a song 160k miles........ I have two others....... but anyway, this one the head gasket leaks oil..... I am gonna replace the gasket.... but, I just want some insight as to how to approach the problem.... Accomplishing the work is not the issue... As for I have been working on these puppies for a while now...... The issue is, I don't want to do this twice....... So here is my question..../questions..: Am I wasting my time just replacing the gasket... Should i resurface the head? Is there a laymans way to check the head for warpage? What about Blow by? could the oil leak be caused a result of blow by? How can I check If the motor has blow by? So IF any one out there can provide me with some wisdom regarding approaching the situation... I would be much abliged..... Thanks, Micky
Wrench Princess
I suggest doing both sides since those specific motors tend to have headgasket issues anyway. It most likely couldn't hurt anything. Only replacing part of something is never a good idea because then when the other part goes, you will have to take it all apart again to fix it. It is much easier to just do it all at the same time. MilesFox
there is an o-ring in the head gasket for the oil passage. also, there is an o-ring on the cam box-to head mating surface, on the bottom corner if you are lucky, maybe its the o-ring in the CAM BOX, and not the head hasket. try to see which seem the oil is coming from
mickytrus
if you are lucky, maybe its the o-ring in the CAM BOX, and not the head hasket. try to see which seem the oil is coming from This oil is coming from the passenger's side rear... Where the head mates with the block the lower side... You mentioned an o-ring for oil passage in the head gasket? Where would this be on the head gasket? Is this on the front and rear of the gasket? for the oil to drain back to the oilpan...
