adaboo
I am just trying to use the parts at hand, I have a E82 long block and am thinking about putting it in a station wagon with e82t? How long of a life expectancy? Would it run? Would it have more power? Not to much experience with turbos, but i do know the long block has 9 to 1 compression. Another option is just taking the turbo out. Would I need to change the ecu with motor, if not running turbo?
idosubaru
there's a few different EA82 long blocks. do you know which you have? it'll run fine, you just have to be very careful with it. run it like a daily driver and it'll last. push it and they easily blow. you'll have some oil return lines from the turbo that need to bolt into the head which doesn't have the fitting/hole in it on the non-turbo block. so you'll have to work around that. use the turbo heads or find another work around. the turbo heads would be easiest and gives you new headgaskets too. use Fel-Pro permatorques on this engine and add 5-10 foot pounds, that's what many of us do that have done a bunch of these engines. GeneralDisorder
Bad idea to run a high-compression EA82T - they aren't great on their stock compression and adding more just is not a good idea. You could run it MPFI without the turbo, yes. It should run alright with a high-compresison block. GD
adaboo
Thank you for the replies. I am going to go and pick the cars up today. In a deal I got three subarus for 500. a 1990 two door rusted out but new e82, a e82t station wagon unknown year at time, with what seems to be every optionknown to man, super clean even has running boards and there is something wrong with motor, and last but not least I believe it to be a 1984 station wagon e81 with the body cut off and roll cage installed. Looks like a 4wd sand rail.
