toohey.michael
I have a 79 Brat that I picked up a few months ago in VT. It's been cold here and I am finally starting to put in the work I knew was waiting for me when I bought this baby!! First things first, my floor pans are rusted out and I am beginning the project today. Both seats, carpeting, and console have all been removed and I am ready to start cutting!! I am a novice mechanic, if any one has any suggestions as far as tricks of the trade are concerned with repairing floor pans I would really appreciate it. So far I am making a cardboard template of the areas to replace and will use these to trace my sheet metal for the new pans. Once the metal is in my hands I will use wood clamps to fasten a 2 x 4 to use as a metal bender. Once bent into the desired shape I will clean up all of the metal on the braces and frame side rails to prep for welding. I'll try to keep posting on this project, maybe I will learn something that will be helpful to another somewhere down the road... Thank you in advance for any advice!!! 1982gl4
Hey you live in the next town over from me, if that's Stowe VT! Sounds like you have a pretty good game plan as far as the rust repair goes. That's what I did when I fixed the floors, rocker panels, and bed of my Brat. Just make sure you seal it up well when you are all done welding! toohey.michael
Cool, thanks for the affirmation. Yup, ole Stowe VT. Found this old girl up in the woods and cant wait to have her in proper running condition for the summer round here, Thinkin the biggest challenge will be finding jump seats for the bed!! 1982gl4
Finding parts can be a challenge up our way. This forum will help a lot in getting parts. Just post up what you want in the wanted section, and go from there. Shipping can be expensive because most people on the forum live out west, but it's well worth it, the parts they get are in much better shape than the ones up here (if we can find them). I was lucky enough to have someone give me a pair of compete jump seats here locally seat belts and all!
