Battery Issues

Recommended Posts

So I just bought a new battery and everything seemed to be fine until today. I drove to the gym and the car had power to the inside, but made a click noise like a battery does when it is dead. Luckily I was parked next to an autoparts store and they tested my 5-day old battery and told me it was bad. I got a jump and made my way home. What would cause my battery to die like this? My volt meter says around 12v and when I try to start, it just drops. No spikes or crazy things like that.

I only ask because I should of listened to everyone not to get a battery from walmart.. started fine but the next day no start and click click..

traded a brand new battery for an interstate.. well more like I had to spend out another almost $80....

Ya, I've been reading other posts and it seems to be one of many possibilities. It could just be that it was a cheap battery, bad starter, fusible link, voltage regulator, bad connection, etc... I guess I gotta narrow it down. the fusible links look old, but are not melted or anything (have not checked resistance), the car started easily with a jump, so I really have no idea. I think the battery is just not charging.

if the car starts with a jump it's not the wire or the starter or anything else.. you just have to face it you got a bum battery :-\

When you did jump it did you test the alternator output? It should be putting out anything above 12V rev the car to 1500 rpms and test the voltage output.

I had a battery die on me several years ago in a Walmart parking lot. I got a jump and drove it to the Wlamrt auto service dept. and bought a Walmart battery, since my old one was really old and had far outlived its expected lifespan.

Anyway, Walmart only had one, or maybe it was two, batteries that would fit my '86 wagon. I bought the most expensive one - I think it was $35 or something like that.

That battery has been fantastic! It too has far outlived its projected lifespan. I can leave the car lights on, forget to completely close the door, leave the hatch up, all overnight, and exactly once I had to get a jump (just recently) to revive it. Drove it around town that day and it's been just fine ever since.

What's the deal with people down on Wlamart batteries? I would get another one.

maybe because mine lasted 48 hours before it crapped out on me.. and it was not like I had any heavy loads on it.. I took it and got an interstate and that was the end of it..
