Subaru had different weight flywheels right from the factory on a lot of their cars. I think the lightest one I have seen came out of a 1.8 impreza, but I'm not 100% sure on that because I have had it kicking around my garage forever. That's what I put on my frankenmotor (still not running due to wiring) And it was a few pounds lighter. So you could just look for a lighter factory one and probably be okay. As far as clutches I'm a strong believer in Exedy as well!

i did find this clutch from Exedy, cost a bit more but since you guys recommended Exedy i will pay the difference.

Exedy is a great way to go, plenty of hold power for your application... Looks like the ebay seller has good feedback, but you could do some price shopping around or maybe just messge him and make an offer since he does have 3 available???

I've learned that it pays off in the end to get quality parts now, than to buy cheap and have to tear it down in a few months  The Flywheel shouldn't be too big of a deal, you can even look for a quality used one on craigslist or ebay classifieds, make sure there are no cracks and it's been properly resurfaced... Good luck, and happy motoring!!

dude I learn't the hard way with those f-1 clutches off of ebay. I had one in my integra back in the day and it sucked. engagement sucked, it kicked the pedal back when you were letting out, and did not grip for S#!T. I had a modded B18A with no stupid vtec, just cams, pistons, head work and intake manifold, and that car would slip that f-1 "stage 2" but an exedy stage 1 held it and had tons better pedal feel and engagement.

also, i have an ej22 leg and a ej25d forrester and I wouldn't trade my deucedeuce for nothing.

  • 2 weeks later...
i haven't gotten a new clutch yet.

question about the Franken Motor..

i couldn't convert a Phase 2 EJ25 to a Phase 1 Franken Motor ?

possible to covert a phase 2 to a phase 1 ?

You would need the heads from a Phase-I EJ25 Out of a 96 Outback or 2.5GT. I'm sure there might be something I am over looking.

Just stick with the OBD-I EJ22, toss on an ebay UEL header, removed the cats and go with 2.25" straight pipe all the way back. Add a 19" resonator right after where the 2nd cat used to be and and then stick your glasspack on at the end.

i would like to get more power after i get bigger tires on it, and so i can haul a trailer with scrap metal.

Then drop the Phase-II EJ25 in there, change the timing belt and you'll be in ship-shape.

Remember, the bellhousing bolt pattern on a Phase-II engine are different then the Phase-I IIRC. You are also going to need the ECU and its wiring harness.

not gonna do anything crazy like that.

i'd stick with the 2.2L first.

or put in the 2.2L headed early EJ25.
