danbennett2u
I probably wont be tackling this issue today, but my wife's 95 impreza had an alarm system installed at some point in it's life, and whomever disconnected it screwed up the horn. I know the wiring from the steering column is good, as I can press the horn and the relay under the dash clicks, but there is no sound. I am pretty sure the horn its self is fine, as sticking a 9v battery on the terminals makes it make noise. Somewhere between the relay inside and the horn its self the wiring is hosed. I would like to just run new wires from under the dash to the horn, can't be too hard, but I need some guidance on where I should be tapping into. Location, wire colors, etc. Can anyone provide any assistance?
lmdew
Most likely it's just cut right under the dash. The wire would be running out the drivers side firewall, in a large wire bundle about 1.5" in dia. It runs along the bottom of the top frame rail under the drivers side fender.. Pull the lower kick pannel and I'm sure you will find the wire cut under the dash.
danbennett2u
I did not see any cut wires in that area last time I was under there. I did see some cut splices into powered wires near the center console, but those are obviously not the horn. Any idea which color wire it would be? Cougar
See if you can locate the relay since you can hear it. Also see what color the power wire is going to the horn and see if you can find a matching wire on the relay socket. The relay may be bad so try swapping it before chasing wire trouble. danbennett2u
Ok, no cut wires that I can see, I cant even see any that have been obviously spliced and taped back up. The wires going to the horn are black. If the relay clicks I assume it is fine, I think it is more likely someone screwed it up past that point when they did the alarm. Dont have a way to test it anyway. Would like to just run a wire from some point in the cabin to the horn and test that way, Have tons of wire, no spare relays. I pulled the kick panel and took pics, but there are A LOT of wires and I have no idea which bundle to even start poking around in. I am attaching some pics, if anyone can help point me to the right place or has a wiring diagram for a 95 impreza that might help
ericem
If you undo the fuse box(actually removed the nuts it is behind it) there you can see the red horn relay. My relay was clicking on my 93 L yet no horn changed the relay worked fine. I am sure you can run wires from that red relay and figure out the wires using a meter. brycarp
Here's the diagram for the horn circuit (for a '96 Impreza but I bet it's the same.) The "LB" marking on the "business" side of the horn circuit (the black wire is just hooked to +12 volts) means "blue with black stripe". (They use "L" for blue, because "B" is already taken for black.) It looks like the wire you want to trace is "blue with black stripe" all the way from the horn relay to the horn(s).
