987687
I'm rebuilding an ej25d and looking for a shopping list and what are the best parts to get. Should I just get all subaru bearings and rings? Or are there some aftermarket ones that are cheaper/better? So far I'm thinking: Oil pump Main bearings Rod bearings Rings All gaskets - subaru Timing belt stuffs - import experts Except for the last two, what are my best options? And other things I've missed. Also, what machine work should I have done in terms of resurfacing and boring/honing? I'm looking for an engine that's going to have good power and be reliable. I'm going to put this block between ej22 heads with delta cams for a high power engine. Please don't suggest I do an ej22 swap in my car. Thanks for the help! 1982gl4
That list looks pretty good, make sure you get the o-rings that are between the two half's of the block. I got my bearings for mine from a local machine shop, although I don't remember the name, I still have the boxes at home an could check this weekend if you could wait that long. I got aftermarket rings as well by ROCK RINGS. I can't tell you how well anything has worked or complaints as I have not gotten the Brat the engine when in running yet... I also replaced the valve seals while I was there because the heads I got were unknown.

Also a good idea to stop into my local machine shop and see what they can get me.
idosubaru
mic the crank and see if it needs machined and oversized bearings. cylinders needs honed. if you want to skip the mic'ing of parts and additional tools a machine shop can inspect the crank, rods, install the rings on the pistons and hone the block for you and you assemble it all. they have access to all the limits and specifications. if the engine was known good and running before hand you could wing it and just install regular sized bearings...i'd do it depending on what i knew about the motor but guessing like that is not a good recommendation. The motor was overheated to the point of seizure twice. But still started right up and ran with no knock, bangs, or bad noises. I'm not going to run with it though because I'm afraid the bearings are hosed.
idosubaru
good call, those bearings aren't likely to last.
