Matthewboerner
87 gl-10 ea82t 5 sp push button 4wd. It's been running fine up until yesterday. I left for work and it started right up, after 5 hours of sitting it acted like the battery was dying but started up. Brand new battery PS. And drove to get gas and it would just acted like an even worse battery, so gave I a push and it started. This morning started up just fine like normally, went on a short errand and it is just rur rur rur rur and no start. I check the alt and it was at 13.4 at th battery when running. I even tried jump starting it this morning too. And also this morning now it doest even recognize there is a key in the ignition not even that nice chime or dash lights or turn over. I checked the fuseable link and they looked good. Any ideas where to look or advise? Thank you. -matt
El Presidente
Have you checked your battery connections? it doesn't take much corrosion to make life hell.
Matthewboerner
Yeah nice and clean and tight on the terminals
General chaos
how about the wires going to the battery terminal are they clean and tight?
Deener
You said you checked the fusible links but check the little black wire that goes to the fusible links box in case it is loose. Another thing - if you have recently had a new key cut and are using it, perhaps try the old one.
El Presidente
I think I'd start back probing around to see where you do have power. I'd start by testing what voltage I have at the fusible links and keep moving downstream from there. I've had fusible links go bad without any visual indicator too. Widespread intermittent powerloss symptoms are usually an obvious fix...usually. Good luck
MilesFox
I would say the running issue is CTS related, and now the now power issue is related to jump starting, maybe a loose battery teminal? maybe the starter lead to the battery burned out finally. I place my bets on the battery cable to the starter.
misledxcracker
I'm with the fox on this one... Check continuity on the cable, maybe?
Matthewboerner
Also another thing that I thought was weird that when I would put in the key the car won't chime, turn to accessories and no dash anything and no crank when turned to start, even when jumped to a running vehicle.... But!! It will still auto lock the doors and cd player spit out the disc but nothing else works... Are these powered differently? I'm going to check around ASAP with a voltmeter and hope to find the cause.
misledxcracker
Make absolutely sure it's not your fusible links... Check continuity on those as well, sometimes they can snap but not look like it
Matthewboerner
Ok so I checked fuses cleaned all connections and continuity all is well, I went to jump start it as the battery was to low (11.6v) to try to start it. It fired right up and is charging at 14.1v an running steady. * now the new issue that has made it's self more clear, it will only start one time. This morning after cleaning and letting it charge for a while and I checked the battery voltage when off and it was at 12.2v, so I tried for another start up and just got a solid crank. It smells like it is flooded, what could cause that? It starts great the fisrt time of the day after sitting overnight but even waiting about 5 hours it struggled to start but did after coughing and sputtering (what I would consider a flooded start) and then cleaning up. So I guess my questions are: 1) what could cause it to flood (if so) 2) could timing be an issue? 3) would the CTS cause this? Per milesfox Thank you for your help everyone!!!! -matt

Per milesfox Thank you for your help everyone!!!! -matt 1. coolant temp sensor. car thinks its cold when it is warm, too much fuel 2. the timing curve will be relative to tps position, maf reading, and engine temperature 3.this is the first thing i would suspect. 4. i had similar problems, it was the CTS. this is how i learned, and thus my answer to your question
Matthewboerner
So I wiggled and cleaned up the CTS wires as good as I could, apparently did the trick. I'm able to start it up at all temp and the idle seems to be a touch lower too. My only concern is that if I end up needing to replace the CTS how do I unscrew the ground wire one that so tucked in there? I tried putting a 1/4" ratchet with a Phillips and standard screw driver head with no luck. Hmm. -matt
