Rear brake swap help

Recommended Posts

So the rear drums on my 88 DL S/R 4x4 are toast. Since I'm planning an EJ swap soon anyway, can I get a disc brake setup from a legacy? The local U-Pull-it has a few legacys but no GLs. I want to do a 5 lug swap anyway.

What exactly do I need to pull from the donor car to do this?

OR, can I get parts from the local auto shop for GL rear discs instead? Which would be cheaper/easier/lighter/better?

I have space to work but no specialty tools.

you might be able to buy loaded ea82 rear calipers, but you still need a backing plate to mount them.

i have read that you can fit an ej backing plate by making an extra hole or 2, and one or 2 of the holes line up, and do that. But you will need xt6 5 lug hubs.I am contemplating legacy rear brakes on my 86 3door w/xt6 hub

hi, xt6 rear rotors are larger than the 4lug rotors, the xt6 backing plates makes the caliper mount farther out, and then 4lug rotors do not fit all the way out to the edge. if you want to use 4lug wheels you need to use backing plates and parts from a 4lug sedan or wagon , the xt6 actual calipers will work on either setup , but the mounting backing plates are the key part .
