Explain all the different EJ heads and what would be the better head for 2.2T.

Where to start? First of all, that's not a question, it's an imperative sentence. Second of all, I doubt anyone here is going to explain all the different EJ heads. Third, different heads are "better" for different things. Knowing nothing about you and what you intend to do with that engine, I'd venture to say that the "better" head for an EJ22T would be the one you can get for the least amount of money.

If you want a lot of good info on building EJ22Ts, check out the Built Motor forum on NASIOC. Specifically search for Fuji K as he has done his homework as far as building a good EJ22T. He currently has a thread talking about the differences in blocks, heads and what makes a good combination. Its one I currently am subscribed to as I'm in the slow process of piecing together parts for my EJ22T build.

EJ22T block with #5 thrust machined into it

EJ257 crank

Manley I-beam rods

JE pistons (overbored to make this a 2.4 stroker)

ARP headstuds, rod bolts and whatever else I can replace for fasteners

EJ20K heads, intake, PS setup (the "K" was a similar setup to the newer EJs as the turbo inlet goes under the intake rather then up behind it like the EJ22T, EJ20G)

FP Green turbo and other respectful bolt on mods.

You're going to have to sort out the piston situation if you plan on putting any head on that block that has a chamber volume over 40cc's.

The EJ22T has pistons that have -28cc's of dish, the wrx has -12cc's, the Sti has -22, and the N/A EJ22 has -12.

If you were to swap on DOHC EJ25 heads(46.6cc chamber volume), your compression ratio would be 7.5:1, horrible, in my opinion. Swap on SOHC EJ25 heads(50-51cc),7.1:1, eesh.

Basically, if you want to swap on a set of heads that don't breathe through a straw like the EJ22 heads(41cc) do, you might want to think about replacing your pistons. You could throw in a set of N/A EJ22 pistons, then use DOHC EJ25 heads, that would be simple., and would get you to about 9:1 compression ratio. As long as you don't mind getting your hands dirty.

If you are going to go through the process of replacing pistons, look into Wiseco ej22t forged units. They are set up to increase the CR and are off the shelf items. They also have some that are for use with the stroker setup with the 2.5 crank. IIRC they have a different position of the wrist pin so they don't poke our of the bore with the longer stroke.

I'm piecing together my "build" too and plan on using some of the Wiseco slugs when I do.
