HATCHY
87 hatch ea81.... Car has been lacking power for some time now.. Dieseling after shut down. Immediate sign of bad timing, When I went to put the car into time, I unplugged the vac line, and all that good stuff, and noticed there was no vac sucking on my finger. So I figure the vac advance is not working.. Car is in perfect time now, No more dieseling, just is missing so much power in third, and fourth, This is a low mile import engine too, no smoke or anything good running.Does my Distributor need rebuild? Is this whats causing this Pain?
Uberoo
where did you unplug the vaccum line?
naru
There isn`t supposed to be vacuum there at idle. You should only have vacuum w/throttle above idle and warm engine. Somewhat common for the diaphragm to rupture and leak.See if it holds vacuum. This would cause power loss.
Gloyale
Uhhh.....Since "dieseling" on shut down happens in the absence of spark(key off) I'm gonna say that's not the case. Ussually, fuel, not ignition timing that causes dieseling. You may have stopped by lowering the cylinder temps with the timing correction, but that's not why it's dieseling. Dieseling after shutdown could be a bad float needle in the carb(overflowing bowl). Or some other issue in the carb, pehaps the the slow air bleed is blocked(excessive fuel pulled through idle circuit). Or even as simple as the the antidieseling solenoid failed (usually they fail the closed, not open. Won;t stsy running at idle I would suggest a cheap rebuild kit for the carb. They are VERY easy to take apart and clean the jets and emulsion tubes. Pull the air horns out, and replace the little o-rings that seal them. Don't mess with the power valve, just spray it out good. Install new needle and seat, and new gaskets. Edited April 28, 2011 by Gloyale
HATCHY
Yeah I brouth it up in the rpms the engine was warm, Just no vac, I pulled the hose of the little round thing on the dist, And my card probably does need a rebuild its a weber over 5 years old, never messed with it,
naru
It is a throttle plate position thing rather than RPM. (throttle needs to open enough to uncover the "ported vacuum" passage) I`m not sure if you can open the throttle far enough w/no load on the engine.Blipping the throttle should get you a pulse of vacuum though. Does the hose from the disty go directly to the weber or are there other things teed in?
