TheLoyale
While I was looking at the rear diff cover on my '95 Outback, I noticed it was had a (3) stamped on it, where as Jboy's '95 Legacy has a (2) stamped on it. His car has the 4.11 gearing, so I am guessing mine is 3.90, is this correct, as his runs at a higher RPM at Highway speed. Both of these cars are 4EAT AWD. Also is there a 3rd Gear Ratio? Stampings (1) (2) (3) ?
johnceggleston
95 legacys, w/ 4eat AWD are 4.11 final drive ratio. trans code number TZ102ZAAAA. (FWD may have a 3.9 or a 3.7 ratio, i'm not sure about them.) 95 legacys, w/ 5spd AWD are 3.9 final drive ratio.
wtdash
The '95 OB had wider tires and bigger rims (cars101.com) - 195/60R-15 vs. the L's 185/70R-14, but they are essentially the same height so the speedo would be the same, if both are still 'stock'. Are they both on stock tires??? They should have the same transmission, too, as JC pointed out. The '96-99 OB ran the taller 205/70R-15, and had the 4.44 FD ratio in the 4EAT/4.11 in the 5-speed. I don't know about the 'stamping'....sometime in '94/'95?? Subaru stopped putting the ratio on the rear diff, like this one from the '80's: Edited May 4, 2011 by wtdash
jboymechanic
According to my Factory Service Manual, all 1995 automatics had a gear ratio of 4.11. My car (1995 Legacy with auto) runs at about 2,500 RPM at 65 which is accurate since the FSM states that the final gear ratio is 0.694 and given my tire size is 185/70 R14 that equates to exactly 2577 RPM at 65 mph. jboymechanic
Okay, I did a little more searching in my FSM on disc and found the following: "When replacing a rear differenital assembly, select the correct one according to the following table" T1 = 3.900 (manual transmission) T2 = 4.111 (automatic transimission) Tom, I recall that you said your diff has a "T3" sticker, there is no mention of that in the FSM that I have for 1995 Subarus. TheLoyale
Yep, T3 is the only thing thats stamped on the diff case. Nothing else. And my car is a 1995 Outback Automatic which had 15" 195/60/15s So does anyone know what "T3" is? (Not Terminator either )
johnceggleston
the 97 FSM lists the following rear diffs. the 95 FSM list only 2 rear diffs, T1 and T2 only. the same specs as 97 but not the TP.
jboymechanic
Tom, you sent me a text that you tach at about 2,600 RPM at 65, my Legacy is the same. Makes sense as both are '95s and both are automatic, you have 4.11 gears.
