Cpt. Stooby
Just looking for the specific years or parts numbers if anyone has them. The parts are the 4runner struts that will fit an ea82. also the tempo and accord springs. One more question I understand the spring add some lift. Would I want to lower my car to remain at a 4 inch lift with a more stiff ride.
Uberoo
tempo= any front springs-when i put them under my ej swapped EA82 wagon,I cut a full coil out and it STILL lifted the front end an inch.in your case you may need to cut more. accord+ I think mine came from an 89 automatic with AC.I believe the automatic/ac cars are the springs you want.Front springs as well. no idea on 4 runner parts. xbeerd
Bringing up an old thread..... i ordered some springs from RockAuto, 1994 Ford Tempo, were Rockwell/Husky/RAD (whatever they are called now) RV852 was the part number. i used 94 as it was mentioned in one of the threads i asked this inon here somewhere. anyways.. they are smaller than the EA82 springs on my car. these springs seem to be about 1/2-3/4" smaller in diameter, it almost fit inside the Uberoo... do you recall exactly what year car your springs came from? i gotta send these back and dont wanna end up gettin the wrong things again.

xbeerd
Hey Jeszek, i've scanned over that page i dont know how many times, however, that write up has great info and part numbers about the rear setup. but doenst give ANY real details about part numbers or year range of the tempo springs other than just saying Tempo Springs. i've found out the hardway, that the 94 springs are NOT the right size. they seem to split the generations as 83-87 and 88-94. i've searched up and down this board for real info on this and its mentioned, but no one seems to have made a clear write up or left any real details about it. i'm gonna take a look again at the springs i have here before i ship them back to see if i am missing something, maybe take some pics too. Loyale 2.7 Turbo
When I was Hunting for New coil Springs for my Loyale, I Took with me, one of the Old stock coil springs and went to search to The Local Junk Yards. By the way, the Local Junk Yards, called here "Yonkers", doesn't carry complete cars, they have classified parts areas such like: Doors' Area, Engines' Area, Seats' Area, transmissions' Area, etc... as you can see pictures ~► Here. I Searched among a Pile of Strut assemblies in the Suspensions' Area, comparing each coil to the one I had on my Hand, taken from my Subie; that way I Found by myself that the Tempo coil Springs looked almost identical to the Subaru ones, they had just two more Turns and a were li'l more thicker. Since I Found those Tempo Coil springs already taken outside their car, they only had a Mark done with white paint marker on them, that said: '94 Tempo.I Asked to the Junk Yard's vendor about their origin and he answered that he knows only what each part says on their marks.... So, Maybe you obtained a First Gen tempo coil springs... or the white marks written in the ones I purchased were Wrong, I don't know... Could you post Pics with both the Subaru and the Tempo coil spring that you obtained?Kind Regards. ► Edited to update the Web Link Edited April 20, 2013 by Loyale 2.7 Turbo
xbeerd
here ya go... you can see the difference in the OD. i reconfirmed the shipping invoice shows the RV852 that i ordered which is listed under the 2.3L I4 Tempo. they crossreference to Moog parts via the "852" etc. IE RV852 (Rockwell) and CC852 (Moog), it even says CC852 on the box along with the RV852. In the list of coil springs, the closest i seem to get is the Raybestos, Inside Diameter=4.406" Wire Diameter=.515" Free Height=15.13" Load height=11" which is a rear spring, not a front spring. Think its possible you had a rear strut, not a front strut? Edited October 29, 2011 by xbeerd

I cannot answer it because as explained above, when I obtained the Tempo's Coil Springs for my Subie, those coil springs were Out from their car, the Vendor said the only information I got. Maybe it is a Fool Question but here it Goes: Have you already tried those Springs on the Subaru Shock absorbers? The Difference in Tall and turns is the Same I had when I Compared the Loyale ones against the Tempo ones, side by Side; the difference you might have could be just their diameter. Also, if they don't fit at all, maybe the guy at the Junk Yard sold me the Rear ones as you think... if so; I must correct the Writeup I done; so please I kindly ask you for feedback. Kind Regards. xbeerd
yeah, i tried to seat these springs in the subaru struts and they are definatly not right to fit in there. i am thinking you might have actually gotten rear springs. i think i'll just return/swap mine for the rears and see what happens. i will definately let you know so the write up can be adjusted for more info. i'll be sure to give you the partnumbers for whatever i end up getting that works Good Question!... Please Let me Know how things Result. Besides me, Uberoo Used Ford Tempo Coil Springs Too, as you can see here: Yes, I used the tempo springs on my Ea82 wagon with the EJ22. I cut one coil off and it still lifted the front an inch. Even with the EJ22 up front. tempo springs are great on offroaders if your adding steel bumpers, winches, and EJ22's But it would certainly stiffen up the ride and remove any sag. for a stock replacement you might need to cut 1.5 or 2 coils off the top. Maybe he could Post here the info about the Source of his Tempo's Coil Springs... PM Sent!
Uberoo
I got my springs from a second gen ford tempo 1988-1994 with a v6.I don't know the exact year or option other than v6 2nd gen.The springs are FRONT springs. as long as the springs are the front springs from one of these with a v6 it should work: http://www.thesupercars.org/wp-content/uploads/2009/06/Ford-Tempo.JPG BTW.The springs are actually about 1/2" smaller in diameter than subaru stuff, but they will still seat just fine. I wish I could be more help but a couple of years ago I heard a RUMOR that tempo v6 front springs would give a bit of lift and a stiffer ride.So I went to the junkyard and found a tempo with a v6(2nd gen, the yard didn't have any 1st gens, not that I knew what a first gen tempo even looked like) and grabbed its front springs.took them home and was amazed to see that they would work.just a little tall.I had to remove a coil just to fit them on the struts. xbeerd
hmm, ok, i think i am going to have to get out to a junkyard and pull some springs then, not about to cut up the NIB springs i bought and can return. i tried to put the springs up on the ea82 struts i have, one from milesFox's 3door ('87?) and the other from my 92 loyale, and i dont see how they will seat properly with out clunking around. any pics of those springs in the struts by chance? *** or am i just supposed to put them in the struts and they will kinda self center themselves and stay in place? i just dont want them to clunk around, as my car has enough things clunking around, LOL Edited November 1, 2011 by xbeerd
xbeerd
hmm, looks like the rear springrate is only 114lbs... so guess that leaves my rear theory out of the equation.
xbeerd
ok, so i put the spring on the strut and here's what i come up with as far as alingment of this spring. i didnt line up the top part yet. but thats ok for that much space on the side opposite of the coil stopper thing? (thats the technical term:burnout:)
xbeerd
back from the junkard. $30 later i have a strut assembly from a 91 topaz. i didnt realize it at first, but the spring was broken about 2" from the end. anyways. i popped it apart and got the parts i wanted... the spring seats... i think this is going to work now with the springs i have. the only thing is i dont know how much spring to cut off since these are variable rate springs. i'll probably have to put one of the ea setups back together. do some comparisons between the new and old and weighted and unweighted setups. the spring seats make this all look better to me. regardless. that sounds like its going to suck. since my car is already lifted 2" and is a *************** to get apart to begin with. Loyale 2.7 Turbo
Some info I Want to Share: Originally I Discovered that the Tempo's Coil Springs Work in EA82 Subarus, around year 2000, Because my 2.7 Wagon had the Heavy weighted ER27 engine, plus a Fiberglass / Metal sheet Reinforced Heavy Front Bumper; so I Needed something Stronger than the EA82's coil Springs. But it is interesting that since the damage my 2.7 wagon had (See Here) I Removed certain parts from it to make my EA82 Weberized Wagon (My BumbleBeast) a Better car with the Better parts from the Two; that includes the Tempo Springs. So, I Run my BumbleBeast Weberized EA82 with that Tempo Springs and I Never cutted a single inch from them. Also, I am about to install a SJR 2" Lift kit on my BumbleBeast. (as you can Read here) So I Kindly Suggest you to Try them uncutted first; if they don't satisfy your Needs, you Might cut them. Good Luck! Kind Regards. xbeerd
i'll investigate it. the spring itself is about 2" taller, and according to Moog is 148lbs vs 134lbs stock for the spring rate (per the 89 fsm online). i'll have to see if i can even get them to mount with my spring compressors. or maybe my guy at the shop will do a freebie for me with his hydraulic spring compressor vs my cheapo compressors. i think i potentially could have the workings of a poor mans 4" lift here. haha. if thats the case, i'd wanna lower my trailin rods assuming i can even get them unbolted. but it would be sweet. then i would run into the problem of not being able to lower the rear suspension tube (bolts TOO seized up, would have to be drilled out and retapped.... booo!) xbeerd
OH... also to note, my car has an EJ25 in it. not sure how much different the weight is than the ea82 EDIt; quick search said the ea82 around 225-250lbs and EJ25 like 265 or so. so the difference isnt as much as i thought. xbeerd
the Tempo springs arent goin to make it on the struts at their full height. i compressed the hell out of it to the point i was hesitant to mess with it too much and snap a hook off of my compressors. and it was still a couple inches too tall for the strut. took it up to my guy on the corner and he looked at it and hydraulic compressor could compress it, but if it were on the strut like that, he didnt think you would have any suspension travel at all. this may not be the case for the straight rate springs as there are less coils, but for the variable rate, its not happening. xbeerd
i cut 3 coils off and mounted the spring. theres enough tension in there that i think i might have to cut another 1/2 to 1 coil out of it, i put some pressure down on the assemblly as is. like 200lb man pressure and it didnt budget one bit. i think i have the top part on 180 dgrees outta whack too? man i wish i had a hydraulic spring compressor. Loyale 2.7 Turbo
I still Wonder why my Tempo Coil Springs were Not too Hard to install, They fitted right there without any cut and the car has Suspension Travel. I don't have Hydraulic Compressor neither... So there's Something wrong here. Maybe you were Right with your idea about the Salesman that might Gave me the Rear Coil Springs from the Tempo and told me those were from the Front... Or maybe the ones I obtained came from the First Gen Tempo; I have not enough information to Properly answer that, as I explained before. Really I Don't Like How your install looks now, the Springs Looks very much Forced. Let me Tell you that I installed the Tempo Springs on my Heavy Weighted 2.7 (ER27 engined) Wagon using Rubber Donuts!!! Of course, I Removed the Rubber Donuts when I installed them on my Weberized EA82 Wagon. So Definitely I don't believe that you Got the Same Tempo Springs that I Obtained. xbeerd
well. going by wikipedia, the first gen tempo ranged from 83/4 up to 88, i have in my posession now, in non returnable form, a strut assembly from a 86 tempo. as well as a 91 mercury Topaz. both are identical. also there was no V6 tempo introduced until like 1992 (accordin to wikipedia, which is my only reference) the springs you see in my pic may look different as they are/were variable spring rate springs and i basically cut of the top 3.25 coils to give it a chance to fit in the ea82 strut. also, i adjusted them, rotated the tophat, and they look more like they are supposed to now. they dont fill the diameter of the ea82 strut all the way, because they are not as narrow. the thing about the rear TEMPO struts is that the spring rate is only like 115, 20 less than the stock ea82, so, any gained stiff ness would be from compressing the spring into the strut because its less compressed to begin with and then not uncompressing all the way when installed (if that makes ANY sense) but you are still compressing it is THIS more what your spring looked like? This would be the rear spring. spring rate 115, height is 15" (About 3" taller than the stock ea82 spring, but much easier to compress for fitment) stat says it has a install height of 10". it also looks to be almost conical on the bottom, so that part would feed down into the strut the stock ea82 spring i have on my table is slighly over 4.5" ID and 5.5" OD, 12 9/16" tall. installed height is about 9.5" roughly. SO that being said. im glad i wasted $60 on some ************ty front strut assemblies from a tempo/topaz, $65 on new replacement springs which i cant return because i chopped one up, 6-8 hours of my time driving around, cutting, assembling, dissassembling, reassembling something that most likely isnt going to work. and another undetermined amount of time if i go and try to dissassemble some struts in a pick n pull by hand (i can use my air ratchet to turn down the spring compressors at home) or blow $70 on a new pair. christ, all i want is for my damn front end to sit freakin' level.
