Kwhistle
Do any of the pros here have any recommendations for a decent aftermarket brand for these? I checked with the dealer and they want $15.40 for each of the four cam seals, and 16.50 for the crankshaft seal. All of this kinda adds up, and the aftermarket stuff seems way cheaper. I checked a few of the "genuine Subaru parts" sites, but they don't seem to have the crankshaft seal and the shipping charges are rather high. davebugs
I haven't gotten any in a year or so but with my discount (which isn't that much) I think they were all under 10 bucks each. Aftermarket are a bad idea - especially black ones. Did get some for a froind with an idler kit from theimportexperts that look good and brown like OEM but not installed or tested yet. johnceggleston
subaru parts for you has them , crank = $8, cam = $7, each; plus shipping, $8 - $10 ???. make a list of the parts you need and then go to the parts counter at your local dealer. tell them you are going to buy all the parts on the list and ask if they will match the online / wholesale price. they may do it rather than loose the sale altogether. http://subarupartsforyou.com/cp_partdetail.php?partid=4929 http://subarupartsforyou.com/cp_partdetail.php?partid=4948 www.subarugenuineparts.com has them for $6.27 and 5.87, respectively, plus $9 shipping. that's less than $8 each delivered to your door. MilesFox
I have had good luck with Felpro. With the felpro kits, the manufacture of each part is listed. I have gotten kits that include oem manufacture 'NOK' made in japan seals. Sometimes you get seals from national made in canada/mexico/usa, some parts in taiwan. With felpro and subarus, some specific gaskets or seals will be OEM nok or fuji as these are the only manufacturers for specific head gaskets, valve covers and grommets, and others. GeneralDisorder
I use theimportexperts, and mizumoauto on ebay and haven't had a problem with their (brown) seals. I also buy from a local parts house that does a lot of OEM brand parts..... in any case I haven't had a single problem with any of the seals I've installed. The subarugenuineparts site only lists crank seal for the 2.2L engine, mine is 2.5. Are they the same? BTW, are those "genuine parts" and "OEM parts" sites really genuine parts? I noticed they are powered by trademotion.com and not Subaru itself. Edited May 31, 2011 by Kwhistle
