e2thewags
What is the black film in the coolant res.???
idosubaru
probably just dirt/contamination. after 10+ years stuff starts to accumulate. failing headgaskets can make the overflow dirty as well, but that's less likely on the version EJ25 in that car. nipper
Slime. Take out the tank (if possible I don't remeber how they come out in 2000). I put small pebbels in the tank and shake the hell out of it with some water in the tank. Others may have other methods, which leads to the next question .... when was the last time the coolant was changed?
e2thewags
It got changed before the trip from MN to TX where along the way the #2 timing idler sprocket failed and the thing shut down..
e2thewags
Im worried about valve damage.. its been sitting for 2 yrs finally got time to mess with it, all new fluids gaskets and o-rings.. got it down to replacing the timing pulleys, then a compression test... davebugs
I use a local degreaser (Buster) and gravel (because they are mixed sizes) I scoop up in the driveway. A trick I learned years ago when doing a gas tank coating kit on an old VW beetle. Remember when shalking there is a small hole that'll leak and it always seems tough to keep a finger covering it and still sake vigorousely(sp?). Someone I mentioned this to years ago was an apartment dweller and bought aquarium gravel and said that worked. This reminds me to list some of these on Ebay. I try and keep 2 clean ones ahead. Can't belive folks do HG jobs and leave the crappy overflow bottles looking so bad.
