Looking to modify 2008 Outback XT (turbo)

Recommended Posts

I have an 08 outback turbo which I am looking into modifying to get better performance. I am knowledgable about cars but I am not knowledgable about what is out there in terms of aftermarket components for my car. All suggestions are appreciated!

Get a down pipe for the turbo, a decent air filter, and get a tune done to it, that will really wake it up!

Is there anyway you can give me a link to an example of them or a name so when I go to a guy I can tell him what I am looking for

Give EVERYTHING here a read:

Not to be an internet jerk but I think you should really install this stuff yourself. It's not that hard to install a downpipe and an exhaust and not to mention, saves you a good chunk of change in the process and you will feel better about it in the end. Unless you like paying someone to do stuff for you.

I know some of these parts seem rather pointless, but the SPT heat shields (intake and turbo) might help in your quest for improved performance.

And then there's the SPT high flow air intake, which can go along with the SPT air intake heat shield.

If you have a manual Outback XT, you can also get an STI short-throw shifter. But from what I've heard, it's only a mild decrease in shift throw, so an aftermarket might be better for you.

The Cobb AP (AccessPort) is one of the most popular engine mods out there. It'll void your warranty (if you still have one), but it's easy access to more power without actually touching anything but your OBD-II port.

Sites like legacygt.com , Nasioc, and the sites at the top of USMB can further elaborate.

You only really need a down pipe and a good panel filter to go stage 2 power wise. But yes, a turbo back would make it breathe even better. An Accessport will not void the warranty unless the dealership knows about it, and they will only know about it if you tell them/leave the Accessport out on the open and they see it. The factory Subaru tune for turbo cars really sucks, going stage 1 or stage 2 will actually improve the way the car runs, and drives.

So doing that stuff won't put significantly more wear on the engine and decrease the life of the car then?

And what prices are a good downpipe and parts going to cost?

Also my car is out of warranty since it hit its 3rd year not to long ago.

Like Milesfox said, it will only cause issues if you beat the crap out of it and don't take care of it.

You can get a catless down pipe for under 200, but if you want a catless one, it will be 300-500. Cat back can be found for cheap, even a lot of the ebay ones are fine, and work and last without issues. A better quality one will cost you 300ish. And then a Cobb Accessport will be around 500, OR a custom tune from a local tuning facility will be around 300-500 usually.

I should add that with these things added, you will see a VERY noticeable boost in power!!

What about the downpipe that cobb sells for the outback?

I have no problem paying a couple hundred more for anything as long as it is worth it

I really hate the idea of lowering an Outback... :dead:

Well, the Outback uses pretty much the same chassis as the Legacy, so perhaps using the suspension from a Legacy GT of the same generation might do???

But honestly, maybe upgrading the shocks to KYB GR-2's might help, or maybe even upgrading to Bilstein shocks (pricey!).
