Splitting the block EA82

Is is possible to split the block with the pistons still connected to the connecting rods and crankshaft. Does anyone have any tips or advice for the procedure? Thanks

yes...but only like an inch. have to disconnect the pistons from the crank in order for the block to come all the way apart.

You'll have to pull the pistons, there are holes in the block, large 14 or 17mm hex head so you can pull the wrist pins and pop the pistons out.

 

If you don't the block will only come apart a few inches.

 

There are a few sneaky bolts hidden on the inside, in the water passages IIRC, so be sure to check for those

Yes, there is a way to split the block with the pistons still connected to the rods and crank.

 

I took a slug of oak firewood and pounded with a sledge. Don't do this if you want to reuse the pistons.

If you can get the block far apart enough to disconnect the connecting rods from the crank,then it is possible. Thats how I got mine apart,then realized I did have a pin puller after.

But try and put it back together with the pistons connected, because squeezing the rings around 4 pistons simultaneously is going to be problematic.
