eppoh
Putting head gaskets on a 97 2.2 I noticed that one side is stamped with the 2.2 and another logo of sorts. Is there a certain orientation for these? Which side goes out- towards the head. They look pretty symmetrical otherwise, but I know Toyota had an issue years ago with Hg's installed backwards. Fairtax4me
There should be a mark or lettering indicating which side goes toward the head or block. It will only go on one way. Symmetrical as it may look, the port for the oil feed galley in the block is where the copper ring on the gasket goes.
eppoh
There is no lettering indicating which side goes out. There is copper on both sides, however,. one side has raised areas of what looks like graphite an the edge of all the openings. Edit; On one side it is stamed EJ22 114 and OY
Fairtax4me
Right. The Ej22 uses graphite layered gaskets. The gasket can only go one way because if you put it on wrong the hole for the oil feed won't line up with the port in the block. Does the "OY" look like this? Looking at the mating surface of the block, the oil feed is on your top left hand corner. Doesn't matter which side of the block you're on. eppoh
Thanks, The little logo looks like that. It actually has OY on it though. Must be the yiddish version.
