Electric start / alarm on EA82

Recommended Posts

Is it possible?

Yes? Whos done it? Did you wire it yourself? What kit did you use? Can it be done with a Manual Transmission?

No? Why not?

Basically, I saw a Loyale/GL wagon on youtube today that had this "beep beep" alarm noise before the door was opened, and I have always thought that yes, my car is 25 years old, but Id still rather have it NOT broken into.

So has anyone done this? I think electric start would be awesome since I have an 86 GL Sedan with a Weber, it takes some warming up and itd be awesome to not have to go outside to do it.

With the alarm or keyless entry, I have power door locks already, so this should be THAT big of a deal to get it done... but Im not familiar with the wiring of the car, or the wiring of electric start, keyless entry and alarms.

Yes BUT, you will have to make sure you leave it in neutral when you park it from now on. You will also probably need to disable the neutral safety switch.

Well unless your car runs pretty rich and starts easily in the winter without the choke being set this wont work well. I guess if you have a manual choke you could always pull the knob befor exiting the vehicle but that still might not be enough to get it to fire in the winter.

Ahh true, I actually totally forgot about having to pump the gas before I start it.

Itll work someday then :) when I do my Frankenmotor swap

Can the alarm work now? I know some of the aftermarket ones are so touchy... I rolled my basketball into my neighbors ford and it went off, and I was like, really!? I dont want that, just something that goes off if someone tries to open the doors or something.

Once you do a frankenmotor though you should not need remote start as IMO modern cars do not need to warm up. I am often backing out of my parking space as the airbag test light is turning off (about 8 seconds)

I have some customers on my glass route (brand new ford flex) who let their car warm up for like 10+ minutes. I can only wonder how much gas they are wasting. It would probably warm up if they just got in it cold and drove it 1/4 mile.

My baja can reach operating temp between my parking garage and the freeway. And thats NOT far.

Theres a notch right above the bottom line for temperature, I always let it warm up to that before I leave... No matter what car I drive, I thought thats why it was there...

Kinda nice that I wont have to do that though :) I will still want an alarm :D

in a carb car, you can press the pedal once to set the choke when you park it, and it would be good to go. If the neutral safety switch is present , and the wireless unit installed correctly, it should only start in neutral.

the oem dealer add on subaru keyless will plug into a gl ignition switch

for later generation cars. Waht i am saying is it will retrofit in a gl if you hook it up in the right places, and the plugs for the ign swithc match the same all the way back to ea81.

I usually see them in 2nd gen legacy and first gen forester., ca.1996 up

I give you this information that it could work, being that the unit is standalone, and the fact i used a loyale key cylinder to start up both a 94 legacy, and a 84 brat by plugging it in place of the original one.

IF the unit comes ith a schematic, you should figure it out in any car, really
