ej swap with ac

Does anyone have any pictures of a swap with an ac installed. I am starting to get things ready for a swap but I would really like to keep my ac its been in the 100s for three weeks where I am at so ac is nice.

I'm not sure it's possible without lots of creative fabrication. I've done quite a bit of searching on the same subject recently. Some REALLY talented people here have done some nice factory looking swaps and decided that there just isn't room for an AC condenser, cooling fans, and a radiator.

If you've already got AC it simple - just match the appropriate wires (for my EJ its one wire controlling the clutch) and have some custom pipe work made up to join the existing AC system to the EJ compressor.

 

Or somehow mount the old AC compressor to the EJ and run a ribbed pulley then find an appropriate fan belt to suit.

I built mine retaining the ac, what i can.

 

86 gl:

I hae kept all the original ac lines and wirings. There is no room for fans, though. I have one of those aftermarket slim fans on the back side of the radiatir, since the AC condensor is installed. Typicallt this goes on the front of the rad. The fan is a tight fit, installed with zipties and washers(i could not find the little radiatir zips that come with a fan)

 

I would have to hybrid some hoses. I found that a 94 impreza hose fits for the high side, to use the impreza compressor. The other hose would have to be custom, or somehow, you would have to retrofit an impreza condensor and all the lines back to the dryer to be a direct fit for the compressor. I have noticed at junkyards there are a good 3 different styles of compressors and fittings.

 

There was no way for me to mount the car's original compressor. I would have wanted to see if i could make it fit, if i had the ame compressor from an xt with the flat belt.

 

I say it can be done, if you can work around the hoses

Thanks for the help. I feel sure I can come up with hoses for the ac. I was more concerned about getting the condenser in somewhere somehow. Sounds like it can be done. Anyone have any pics?

No pics but there should be mounts for the condenser in front of the radiator for the L series and the MY's/Brats etc used the radiator bolts and I can't recall what else...

 

Use the gear that's built for your subi from factory and it'll all slot in except the hoses to the compressor.
