Forester XT vs a Tribeca for long drives

Recommended Posts

With no experience with either, i would say smaller car with smaller motor wins the bet.

Unless you have 6 kids and a camper.

That's what I was thinking too.. I wonder if the EPA estimates are with the car loaded up?

My Forester XT does great with long drives!! I have done a few 800 mile trips with it, and it's been very comfortable!! And decent gas mileage too

I'm trying to talk my mom out of the tribeca I don't have any issues with it but shes looking for cargo room and size..

First of all I know from her last two foresters she never really carried that much..

2nd is she is like I like a car to be heavy.. and so I said well now your gas mileage goes down.. and living in a state which has the highest gas tax is no fun..

cheapest tribeca I saw was an 06 for like $16K

She is freaking out with any 90K+ mileage Subaru she's like all that stuff like on your car will need to be replaced, and I say so will any car with less mileage.

Are you pushing for the XT because you'd rather have that in 5 years when she's done with it than the tribeca?

Unless you're looking to replace a lot of stuff, buying any turbo car with over 90k you're looking at replacing stuff. Turbo is staring to get old, etc, etc.

NA stuff does a lot better with higher mileage.

But the tribeca is ugly as hell...

Not really all that true. I would agree with the WRX's an what not. but most Forester XT's are NOT modded, and they are MUCH more reliable and MUCH LESS prone to things failing than other models because they aren't driven the same and modded like other models. The XT's are more reliable than most N/A Foresters because the turbos don't have the 2.5 head gaskets issues, and the drivetrain is VERY tough. Chris, you should know all of this!!

heh well my mom does not care about looks haha I told her it's not about looks and I've been in deep enough stuff for her to understand that :P

I've never heard anything bad about an 05 Forester turbo being prone under then the usual work that needs to be done as the car gets older.

hah she wants me to pick the car.. and she wants to put it in my name..I forgot to check the cargo area on the forester and the tribeca

Well, the B9 has more space then the Forester. a Few more Cubic.FT. When it comes down to it, which you rather work on (As you are her son aka Mechanic)

I gotta say I do miss the forester :D I've never drove a tribeca yet I've only sat in an '06 when they were new.

I am kinda looking forward to the day I can buy a Tribeca for $1,000. I have never driven a Subaru newer then my '95. Except for the 3.0 2001 Outback (Which has SOOOO much power/torque its crazy!)

the short time I worked at the Subaru dealership I still don't understand what's so great about the H-6.. it's a slow reving pig :-/ and it felt no more powerful then the H-4 and more so less powerful then the turbo baja I drove...

it was really bad when we had 4 people in the car and we drove across to street one other person committed on how gutless it felt.

Because the tribeca weighs an effing ton. If you put that engine in an old impreza I bet it would cream a stock WRX.

Same with the svx, not a terribly fast car. But put that motor in an old impreza and it pulls on stock WRXs

actually, i would bet that the Tribeca weighs more like TWO "effing" ton

even the old GL's weighed more than a ton - not much more, but still more.

(for those that dont know - one ton is 2000 pounds... )

but half a ton less than current models. I think the heaviest ea82 gl10 wagon with 4eat and air struts still weighs in at some 2700 lbs. The 3door coupe i would estimate at 2300 lbs or less. I should take it to the scrapyard to junk 20 lbs of metal, and i will get a wight in 20lb increments

I'm still not that impressed maybe it's because i drove a 05 outback but I can't see what advantages you have and I'm not talking HP/TQ numbers.
