Clutch went out help

Recommended Posts

So I was drivin today and as soon as I pull into the store I put the coupe in 1st and it made a grinding sound but would not drive. IDK if its a throw out bearing or what, Ive still got compression in the cluth pedal but the car wont move. Does anyone around Vancouver wanna come and check it out -possibly fix .I wish I knew how to on my own but anyways I appreciate the help.

What year/what tranny?

I learned recently learned the 5MT's aren't designed to go into 1st while rolling which made me happy because I thought my 1st gear syncro was shot. If you got a broken clutch cable, you still can get around by disabling any neutral start switch and starting it in 1st, then "syncro matching" to up shift. Don't down shift though, for that matter, don't ever down shift unless you really need the braking power, just shift to neutral and apply the brake.

Put it in 4wd and try to move it if it moves you lost a front axle. Another way is to put it in gear apply e break with engine running get out and look at both front axles FROM UNDER THE HOOD DO NOT LOOK UNDER THE CAR woulnt wnat it to catch and run you over anyways the broken one will be spinning.

happened to me twice on my old ea81 and with the lift that is on that coupe i bet you lost an axle.

Cheers R.

so now this is an axle issue and not a clutch issue. This makes it easier, and less costly to repair.

If you put it back in 2wd, set the parking brake and put the car in gear. Observe whch axle you can see turning. If none are turning, observe the inner end. If one side is turnong, you found your culprit.

If the whole shaft is turning, the outer end is busted. If the axle nut is turning, then it's a stripped hub caused by loose/improperly installed axle nut.
