EA82T randomness

Recommended Posts

My 88 Rx has been having an issue. At random times, when I pull up to a stop, I will get a low rpm bouncy idle. If i try to accelerate normally from this I will get zero engine response except for a few burps and pops. So I have learned to know when the car is going to do this and rev the engine up high, and then hammer down out of it. Go to the next stop light and the car will be fine. This can happen with a hot or cold engine.

I also have a completely random CEL #22 knock sensor, which I have changed the sensor and connector with no results. I guess It could be the part connected to the ecu, but what am I supposed to do about that?

I recently changed my spark plugs, oil, coolant, and adjusted my timing. I have lost my lower end power, but have gained high end. I feel like this could be the ecu adjusting but it is a pretty dramatic loss of low rpm power.

Any ideas appreciated.

I would suggest TPS issues as this is common with ea82t, at least with my experience with them. You can crack the casing and clean the contacts, and lube with dielectric grease. See what happens if you unplug either the TPS, or even the CTS

hi, if you have not checked the coolent temp sensor and the connections to it ,, either of them can cause similar issues . when you set the timing did you have the green connectors connected , and the idle switch should be closed , it should be if the throttle position sensor is set right. all this according to fsm.

a bad O2sensor signal will cause a rich condition , probably enough to cause rough & sluggishness.
