I have an 88 wagon with a 5 speed trans. high/low transfercase. That pops out of gear in transmission and or transfercase going down steep hills. Any suggestions?

What gears does it pop out of and/or is it popping into neutral on the D/R shifter? Need more info really.

 

There is not a seperate transfer case on a Subaru. The low range is accomplished by splitting the input shaft at the front of the transmission.

i would suggest loose tranny mounts or pitch bar, and as the vehivle descends, the torque against the engine and trans is enough to bump the lever out of place.

 

also, check for loose linkages. there is a degree a=of adjustability in the linkage

The transmission will pop out of 1 & 2 I haven't tried higher gears and the transfer pops out of low. The bushings are worn out that could be my problem. I'll give that a try. Thank you
