samneric
Decided to launch into the old EJ25 HG job. So far I have the following shopping list of part numbers: Description________________ Part#__________ Qty Unit Price Price Overhaul Gasket Set________ 10105AA401______1__ $210.16____$210.16____ Valve Cover Gasket, RH Old__13270AA082______1__ $10.94____ $10.94______ Valve Cover Gasket, LH Old__13272AA082______1__ $10.94____ $10.94______ Valve Cover Gasket, RH New__13270AA111______1__ $10.94____ $10.94______ Valve Cover Gasket, LH New__13272AA111______1__ $10.94____ $10.94______ Spark Plug Gasket__________ 13293AA051______4__ $7.28______$29.12______ Water Pump__________________21111AA110______1__ $95.12____ $95.12______ Water Pump Gasket__________ 21114AA051______1__ $2.90______$2.90______ Thermostat__________________21200AA072______1__ $13.87____ $13.87______ Thermostat Gasket__________ 21236AA010______1__ $2.51______$2.51______ Radiator Hose, Upper________45167AA020______1__ $12.81____ $12.81______ Radiator Hose, Lower________45167AC010______1__ $12.81____ $12.81______ Oil Pump O-ring____________ 806919050______ 1__ $2.23______$2.23______ Timing Belt Kit____________ Gates TCK304____1__ $225.00____$225.00____ Oil Pump____________________15010AA300______1__ $124.40____$124.40____ Radiator Air Plug__________ 45124AC000______1__ $6.20______$6.20______ __________________________________________________________ $780.89__ Wow, quite a price so far! Note I have two numbers for the Valve Cover Gaskets - Old and New - There were two for my year and the parts diagram specified the Old ones fitting engine numbers 285352 to 320927 and the New ones fitting numbers 064059 to 073353. I checked the number of my engine which is 023611 (Maybe this is a replacement engine). Maybe GenuineSubaruParts will be able to clear up the confusion my my VIN. Anyways just thought I'd run this list by folks for a quick vetting before I go ahead and order all these bits. Will post with progress as I get into the job. NoahDL88
I think most people just reseal the oil pump, at least on the older models, maybe someone else will chime in with an opinion as to whether or not its worth replacing the oil pump.

I was wondering that - I didn't find any reference to people changing it on any of the HG jobs posted on here. They must be strong enough?! Seems risky to me though! wtdash
Don't forget the rear Separator Plate 11831AA210 COST $25.22 (subarugeniuneparts.com*) and its 5 bolts (no P/N handy)....I don't think they're included in the Gasket kit you listed. The oil pump is usually just removed, tighten the philips head screws on the back of it, replace the O-ring, and resealed....Like THIS. And you'll read it A LOT on here, don't touch the Rear Main unless you're sure it's leaking. It's a PITA to reinstall....if there is a leak, it's probably the Separator Plate. * I don't know what happened, but since Jamie left, there service really SUX....they don't reply to my emails (maybe Jamie warned them about me??). Olnick
Agree with Noah--I doubt that you would need a new oil pump. You can get a Timing Belt Kit and a new Water Pump as a package from someplace like The Import Experts and save a ton of money. And don't forget new Cam & Crank Seals while you're in there. Use OEM only! Good luck and keep us posted.

GL, Td Thanks! Yeah, it took a long time for me to get parts from them last time I did work. I had problems with 1stsubaruparts because of a miscommunication with a credit card number so I am leaving them alone for a bit. I already changed the Oil Plate cheers! Did that when I changed my clutch last year There arn't any oil leaks from the engine - nothing major that drips anyway so that part looks good. Will leave the rear seal then! samneric
You can get a Timing Belt Kit and a new Water Pump as a package from someplace like The Import Experts and save a ton of money. Will check into that - I got the $225 price from them on just the belt kit so I will look into the water pump combo. And don't forget new Cam & Crank Seals while you're in there. Use OEM only! I think they come as part of the Overhaul Gasket Set so should be all set with those - All OEM Good luck and keep us posted. Will do! Can't wait to get my hands dirty again actually! BigMattyD
Subarugenuineparts does suck now. they are very slow and have poor communication. they just don't keep up with their orders. I got the parts, but it took forever, and there was no response to emails, etc. I would not use them again.... I had good luck with 1stsubaruparts.com and subarupartsforyou.com in the past, though. samneric
Well, everything has been ordered! I went with GenuineSubaruParts for everything except the timing belt/WP (ebay) - I guess we'll see how long it takes them - social experiment!!! 1stSubaruParts would have to have me ship the parts to my house which isn't as preferable as my work location. Oh yes - removing valves - where do I get the special tool??? Or is it better to have the machine shops do them? I'm not sure I trust them down here - for price and ability to work on Sube stuff. BigMattyD
Steve, I found that I had to put a message on their Facebook page after over a week of inactivity on the order to get them to take action on the order. I hope your order moves along more smoothly. I had used them in the past with no problems, but it seems like they are lagging behind lately. I don't know why... Matt Yeah, it was about that last time - I had figured they were ordering my parts from another location and they were waiting for them to come in.... wtdash
I sent an email to SubieGal that used to work there, and she replied w/Nick Chaplin's email address, the Subaru Manager there: Hello Todd, Thanks for the email and taking the time to let us know. We are looking into ways to streamline the process and make our communication a number 1 priority. Thanks, Nick Chaplin Here was my email: Gentlemen,As a frequent customer of subarugenuineparts.com, I wanted to let you know that the online service from your staff has dropped off since Jamie left. I've sent a few emails since her departure and only one has received a reply, whereas I was used to receiving a reply w/in a few hours @ the most. I've also read online from others having similar experiences, and that it's taking a long time to receive orders. I realize there's usually a transition period when staff changes, but this has been happening for weeks. Thanks for your time and look forward to doing business w/Chaplins in the near future.
