rayban1
I have a 1986 brat, the electric fan won't come on. Jumped the fan to test and it works, looked on the fuse panel and did not find one for the fan, all the rest are good. Just changed the thermostat because it was getting hot seem to correct that problem but fan still does not come on. Any ideas? Thanks Ray i
GeneralDisorder
Check for power to the fan. Check to see that the radiator itself is properly grounded to the core support. Check to see if the thermoswitch in the radiator tank is operational and connected. When the thermoswitch hits the set-point temp it will close the circuit from the fan to ground and the fan will start. GD
rayban1
Is the temp sending unit and the fan switch the same part?
GeneralDisorder
No - the temp sending unit is for the dash gauge and is on the back of the intake manifold. The fan thermo-switch is about 3/4 of the way down on the back side of the passenger radiator tank. GD
Cougar
Check to see if power is getting to the therm o switch using a test light probe. If you don't have power to that point then the trouble is most likely due to a bad fuse. If power is getting to that point then try jumping the switch to see if the fan will turn on then. If it works then the switch is the trouble spot, at least if the coolant temperature is exceeding the rated temp of the therm o switch.
rayban1
sounds like the switch, tried the jumping the fan and checked for power to the switch and both are good. Will post results, thanks guys for the help.
