transitional year from Legacy-Outback.?

Recommended Posts

I recall reading somewhere that there was a certain year when the Legacy was becoming the Outback (Outback trim but still Legacy suspension height, etc)

My 97 Legacy Outback seems to sit low like a reg Legacy but has trim, larger wheels, etc of a Outback..If i was to install Outback struts, would i still get the extra height like if i did it to a Legacy (i assume i will) oh and what year again would they have to come from again ?

Thanks in advance.

95 was the first year Legacy Outback in the U.S. at least. It was the one with the trim but not the height.

96 was the first true Legacy outback, It had the large wheels, taller struts, bigger brakes, etc.

96 - 99 Legacy Outback struts will give you the lift you need.

The suspension lift overall is only about an inch. The car appears higher by about 3" overall because of the tires, taller struts, and the higher roof because of the hump. But ground clearance is only about 3/4 - 1 inch more, because of the extra height of the larger tires. The subframe is lowered from the chassis to keep the CV shaft angles close to 0 degrees to prevent excessive wear and vibration.
