I would greatly appreciate being pointed to the correct thread or just an answer. A friend bought a 95 legacy A/T with a bad water pump. The car ran but the pump was squealing. We replaced the pump and had a tech set the timing and install the new belt. Now it will crank but won't start. We checked to make sure all grounds were undisturbed and it has gas. It has spark too but the spark at the coil is orange. All the fuses are good and the crank/cam sensors were not touched. I'm guessing it's something simple but I'm out of ideas. Fairtax4me Posted September 1, 2011 Share Posted September 1, 2011 What they said. Re-check belt timing, be sure all three sprockets have the lines pointing straight up. The arrows are to there to indicate proper timing at TDC for number one. You can use the arrows to check for correct timing at TDC. Setting the timing by using the arrows is way more of a PITA than its worth. Set timing with the lines on the sprockets. The line on the crank sprocket is on one of the reluctor teeth for the crank sensor. When set properly, all three lines should point straight up, the arrow on the crank sprocket will be at 90 degrees, the arrows on the cam sprockets will be at 45 degrees.
