EJ22 into EA82 using stock EA82 wiring and ECU

I want to put a EJ22 into a 87 EA82 SPFI car but I want to use the EA82 wiring , whats involved ? maybe use the EA82 SPFI and I guess I would need to set up the EA82 distributer, Im trying to get away from rewiring the car to make this run, I dont mind if its a little down grade from the stock EJ setup , its for my red wheeler sedan , I could run the disty off the front of the cam pully maybe, I could adapt the Fuel Injecter to fit the EJ manifold, has anyone done it?

you mount a distributor to the rear cam cap area. unbolt the rear passengers side cam cap that retains the sealing oring. take it off and pre-1998 or so EJ22's have a slotted cam ready for a distributor. i believe it's ford and maybe escort comes to mind but it won't be hard for you to figure that out and make something work.

 

be nice to just splice the EA82 wiring onto the EJ22 intake manifold, though i don't know if things will be happy. TPS would definitely need to be figured out - maybe the EA82 throttle body would fit or could be tweaked to work on the EJ22? that's easy enough that i'd probably be dumb enough to just splice the injectors in place, idle controller, play with the TPS and see what happens! LOL

The ea82 spfi ecu will NOT control the ej's mpfi system, no matter what you do, you can't get around it. You MIGHT be able to get an mpfi ea82 car to work with the EJ mpfi system, but even then you have to tap into existing wires, and if you are already doing that, you might as well just use the ej stuff.

 

You got some 27" tires that will fit on 14" rims Scott? I will wire up your car for some decent tires :) Seriously, if you are interested, we can probably work out a deal to get your car running with an EJ... PM me...

OK I can adapt the EA82 throutle boby on , can I get spark without a disty?

There's no need to rewire the car to run EJ ECU. Wiring in the car stays intact. You strip down the EJ harness then add it piggyback to the cars wiring. Properly set up, there are 3 wires needed for basic "running" engine(Battery 12V, Ig. 12V, and Fuel pump power. About 4-6 more wires needed for full operation. (VSS, Tach, Nuetral, Start signal, CEL, ?)

 

IDK.....everybody has there own idea of what's easy and hard work.

 

To me, a few wire splices is WAAAAAY easier than new throttle body and distributor mount fabrication. And in the end, the MPFI system is a superior result to the EA SPFI.

 

Seems like the hard way to a "downgrade" to me.
