swampbrat
88 GL10 , ea82t of course. The vanes in my wife's car keep sticking. They aren't too bad to get loose but it is really annoying. I was hoping to get it rebuilt but the place has not called me back yet ( hector's in phoenix ). Any ideas on why this is happening ( mileage, age, lack of heat shield , etc ) ?:confused:thanks! It may be easier to just buy a good used one - I will post on the wtb section too. rain_man_rich
Just out of curiosity..How did you know the vanes were sticking?
swampbrat
I have boost gauge. I removed the turbo thinking there was something stuck in it but they were just stuck. I was able to free it up by hand then it spun freely. I put it back on but a few days later it quit boosting again.
skishop69
The bearings and most likely the shaft are shot. Rebuild parts for these turbos are discontinued, but there are still a few out there. It's pretty common. Find something different to bolt on or get a used one. The rebuild price won't be worth the car (usually).
bobjr94
Seen a few of the ea82 cars where the exhaust pipe is coming apart and bits of metal will jam between the turbine blade and the housing. You spin it with your fingers and they will fall back in the uppipe, to just jammed in the turbo again later. If you take the turbo off you will probably see little dings or chips out of the exhaust blades.
