PUGS on the way!!! Will a 2" lift do?

Hi all, I am about to pick up some 15" pugs with 205/70 tires on them and I would like to fit them onto my 93 Loyale. I failed to answer these questions myself through searching the off road threads (amongst many others):

Will I actually need a lift to get the 15's on? I do not want to do any cutting or bashing?

With the 2" suspension lift I see conflicting opinions about axle wear (xmember rub and stress...?) without dropping the crossmember one inch. Will I really chew through axles without dropping the xmember? Or will it be ok? - Mostly a daily driver, occasional/light off roading on the weekends.

If I do need a lift (which I think I do), I plan on doing the suspension lift and fabricating my own (6)x2" square blocks and (4)x4" flat bars. I found a diagram and a couple of pics of what I think I need, but I would like some clarification about the front block angles:

I can't tell if I need TWO 15 degree angled pieces per side or if I just need ONE at the front of each tower? Since it will be a daily driver I am looking for nice camber/tire life.

Again, sorry if these questions have been answered I just couldn't find the specifics.

i have a 2" lift on my 91 loyale wag. 205/75/r15s required cutting in front of rear tires and behind (to move mudflap out of the way). the fenders also got a re-radius. im currently eating axles (they dont break, just boots explode, get clicky etc) and tires in front due in part to bad alignment and part because i didnt drop my xmember(geometry lesson) . i know people say you can get away with it, and you can, but this is the cost. im also pretty sure it can be done better than i did. imho if you dont wanna cut you should go taller to get 15s in there. good luck,

*also there are two angled blocks and one straight block for the front facing stud for your lift*

Even with a lift, you will still need a little nit of trim or bash to fit 205/70/15s.

I have a 2" lift, and 195/65/15 tires and they BARELY clear without a bit of trimming or bashing.

I personally feel that a 1" drop is needed on the Engine crossmember and trans crossmember. Also, to aviod vibration, a 1/2" spacer at the carrier bearing helps alot.

I've driven cars with just the lift, and ones with the crossmember blocks too, and the difference is big. Without the crossmember drop the front end lift under throttle is crazy, and the axles are at a prett steep angle. There is alot of vibration. With the spacers added, the vibration goes away, and the front end lifting is less pronounced.

Maybe Ned is just special

15" pug alloys with 195/60/15s. As you can see, no lift. No cutting or rolling.

Still plenty of clearance.

I still managed to go out to a mud hole and 4X4 for awhile, no rubbing and no bottoming out, even though I did bounce around quite a bit.

Miss my pugs :( but I will either get some more later on or just do a 5-lug swap.

OBK25XT has a lowered-ish Loyale on 16s and I dont think he did any trimming:

I'm running 205-55-16 Bridgestone Potenzas currently, also the car is low for sure, not sure exactly how much. Hoping to run 17's after these tires are done, I bought a set of 2008 Outback alloys and am thinking about a gold/bronze color and 40 series tires.

Sorry for all the pics, but hope this helps a little bit...

Perfect, thanks for the info guys. I really appreciate the input. I need to be able to take her off road while maintaining the daily driver status. I will do some more research about maybe 14" pugs or the 5 lug swap instead of the 15's.

It seems like you're focusing on the diameter of the rim. The diameter of the rim doesn't really matter. It's the diameter of the tire that counts. A 27" tire on a 15" rim is just as big as a 27" tire on a 14" rim. Why are you concerned with the "15s?" You can run a smaller tire. You don't have to get a smaller rim.

I have 205/75/14 on my GL with a 2" lift. That's about a 27" tire.

I spent a while and got the camber and caster and stuff corrected out as not to chew up the tires. I don't know what the angles are because I just played with it till it was good.

It's easy on axles, just slide the boots up the shaft towards the joint and it doesn't kill the boots.

I don't usually DD the car, but I did drive it 45 minutes each way for about a month. It was fine. I have 2001 impreza seats in it, so it's comfy.

Just last night, actually. I drove it an hour and a half on the highway to see some friends. It's a good every day car, but also pretty good offroad.
