kayakertom
My 88 dr wagon has recently developed a bearing noise at low rpm that goes away when driving; no noise at idle. I think it is either the pilot bearing or the release bearing. Having just switched the motor in early August, I'm not too enthused about pulling the motor again. If the noise is from either of these two bearings, what's the worst case for a failure? Any other possibility for the noise? Suba_GL_87
when you clutch, it's noise as bad? kayakertom
Yes, more noise when the clutch pedal is pushed. Guess this points more towards the release bearing.
nipper
Well it is a noise you can ignore for a while, but it is time for a clutch. It is the throw out bearing.
Suba_GL_87
you need repair clutch pressure plate, clutch disc and release bearing. it's would be last longer driving. Edited October 12, 2011 by Suba_GL_87

kayakertom
Update: The noise actually was coming from the power steering pump and not the clutch bearings. Had a spare power steering pump and now the noise is gone. Anyone ever rebuild a power steering pump?
