Future Subaru Leone '86 owner(hopefully)

Recommended Posts

Hi, my name is Tobias.. from Norway (wow, awesome intro)

And hopefully I am a future owner of a Subaru Leone(Loyale?)'86(Think it has the EA81 engine, but correct me if I am wrong).

It belongs to my girlfriend's grandfather, and we're going there this weekend to take a look(bringing it a new battery and charger)

The car itself has one issue, it wont run on idle when warm. Stops/dies at intersections from time to time.

The car has a manual choke, and hopefully it just needs some adjusting.

But i've also heard that it could be a vacuum problem (Not sure if thats the right English term for it)

Don't think the carburator is done for.

The car is rust-free, needs a EU-Control, re-registration, insurance and plates.

So I would be grateful if I could bring some sort of troubleshooting list from you guys.

I will upload some pictures of the car on sunday, and what my conclusion is.

Future plans:

No lifting

New wheels (Hard to come by? Thinking third party wheels like Dotz or something)

_Yakima_ roof rack to get the proper JDM style.

It's going to be used mostly in the winter time, so it needs to be practical.

Since the winters are harsh in northern Norway, I don't feel the Polo is cutting it anymore:P

Grateful for all kinds of response.

Probably a fuel filter. that is what I would do first

If its an EA82 it will be under the car on the passengers side before the rear wheel

If its an EA81 it will(should) be on the drivers side before the rear wheel, there will also be a "vapor separator" under the hood but I think you have an EA82

As for the choke I would just look at the carb as some one pulls the cable and see it the butterfly valve moves its full range

We got her running on saturday, seems like the vacuum-hoses were getting abit soggy after years of use. Driving there in a few weeks to get the hoses replaced, along with the air-filter and distributor-lid.

Promised pictures, but she was so dirty:p Ill get them next time :)
