front differential check/fill plug seized

Recommended Posts

How do I get it out? It threads in right? It's a yellow rubber/plastic capped thing with a ring on top. I was told I'll probably break if i force it, and should have another on hand. I need to drive the car so I don't want it to be out of commission for much time.

just pushes in and pulls out, no threads. try to twist it back and forth a little at a time, penetrateing oil might help, they dry out inside and don't want to come out, if you get it out in one piece grease it before replacing hope this helps.........G

They sometimes get a bit of corrosion inside the tube if they aren't taken out much. I just keep twisting it while pulling on it and usually it will free up. If you can get some Kroil down in there that can help too. Then I put some silicone or other grease on the plastic part to keep it freed up. Once you get it out, it might be very loose though, since the o-ring often shrinks and cracks with age. I usually replace that to help it stay seated.
