bratlife
I'm swapping out oil pumps right now and I can't seem to get the old one off. Its the four bolt kind on an EA81 and all the bolts are off, but it still won't budge. Is there something else I don't know about? Am I just and idiot? This is just so simple but I just can't get it off. Any help would be much appreciated.
6 Star
Are you able to wiggle the oil pump around now? If so you just need to keep wiggling, it will come out with some persistence.
bratlife
No, not at all. Thats whats kinda weird about it. I can't make it budge a millimeter. It is as firm as if all bolts were still cranked down as hard as I could get them. But the bolts aren't even in at all. I know sometimes things like this get pretty stuck, but I don't know whats up with this thing.
bheinen74
make sure you have all the bolts out. put the oil filter back on to use the filter as a handle, trying to move the pump clockwise, then counter clockwise, back and forth with the filter as a handle. Do not pry out on the pump, use twisting motion only...
bratlife
thanks, good idea. I'll go try that right now.
bratlife
well, I put the oil filter back on, tightened in down, and tried to turn the oil pump clockwise. It stripped the threads right out of the filter. The pump didn't even budge. I'm not sure what else to do here, anybody have any other ideas? The FNG
I really don't know an EA81 oil pump from a hole in the ground, but could you tap it with a rubber mallet or use a hammer and a 2x4? Not hard, but just enough to jar it.
bratlife
well I finally got it to budge. It was pretty silly what I had to do, but it worked. I can twist it back and forth a little turn each way, but it is still really hard to twist it. It takes quite a bit of force to move it. I moved it back and forth for about ten minutes strait and nothing has changed though. its not getting any looser at all. I guess i'll just keep doing this unless somebody knows some sort of trick to this. thanks for all the replys.
bheinen74
you could try to get some new fresh oil worked into it around the edge. if you can wiggle it a little that is progress. do not pry it out it will crack if you do that. you can maybe pull with hand while wiggle, but do not pry it with a screwdriver or bar. Crazyeights
Get some PB Blaster or some other penetrant and keep soaking it and trying to rotate back and forth until it comes off. In my experience the pump usually ends up cracking when they are stuck this bad, especially if you have to get the rubber hammer out:rolleyes:
bheinen74
by all means take your time and don't force it, if you force it, it is about a 75 buck mistake.
