philipmorg
I'm having an annoying problem with the climate control on my 1987 GL 4WD wagon. The symptoms are as follows: If the motor is cold, I can start it and all the climate control functions work 100%. AC, heat, defrost all work and the blower motor works at all 4 speeds. But, if the car runs long enough for the motor to heat up and I turn the motor off, the next time I start the motor (while it is still warm), none of the climate controls work at any blower setting. This happens regardless of the outside temperature or other weather factors. So, if I'm out running errands and park the car, the climate control works on the first leg of the trip, but does not work on subsequent legs of the trip. After that first start-heat-stop cycle, the climate control will not work until the next day, after the car has had a chance to cool off 100%. Any ideas what could cause this, or things I might test in order to identify the culprit? Thanks for any help, --Philip. Loyale 2.7 Turbo
It is a Worn Relays issue, I Fixed that by Swapping the Old stock Round 20 Amps Relays for Standard Bosch Squared ones, 30/40 Amps. This Writeup might be Helpful: http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=90403 Kind Regards.
philipmorg
Thanks so much for the pointer! I've made the relay swap and will report back as soon as I've verified whether it fixes the problem.
Loyale 2.7 Turbo
Great! There are Two Realays outside the Cabin, on the Engine's Bay, Behind the Passenger's Side Strut Tower (At the Windshield Base) Those are: One for The A/C Compressor's Electromagnetic Clutch. Another one for The A/C Condenser's Fan. Also there is another one Hiding under the Carpet that is Under the Passenger Front Seat, it is for the Power Windows. I Swapped all those Relays along the four ones on your Picture, for Bosch Standard ones Long time ago and Never had any troubles, also all that electrical Stuff Works Flawlessly. Kind Regards. philipmorg
Oh, thank you for clarifying the location of the engine compartment relays. I saw those when I was looking, but wasn't sure they were the relays I was looking for. I'll replace those next!
Loyale 2.7 Turbo
So, the New under-dashboard Relays Solved the A/C Problems, isn't it?
ivantruckman
the Bosch relays are far superior to OEM, they should outlast the car
