moosens
Who's staying where? We want to either get a cheapy motel or camping cabin. We're probably not pitching tents with the family on this one.Rather pay and be more comfy, less effort. I just want an answer to who's staying where and maybe some price quotes if folks have enquired. Thanks, sorry for the 'tude before.I think you guys understand.Actually, the east coast crowd is mostly all cool.
subarubrat
I am camping myself, the rate is $15 for a 10x30 space for the weekend. I have room for two tents on my plot, free for the asking, just ask.

gravelRX
Stayed in Motel 8's all over, they are usually clean. That's my plan, need a local to help figure out proximity to Carlisle fairgrounds. Or I could do it myself when I get the time. I would say we are getting into the timeframe in this idea where picking are soon to become slim. my vote is motel 8. I can do a little legwork about price and such, but it's going to have to be Fri. night. Regards, Jay
moosens
Thanks guys. I think we're leaning towards a cheapy motel,or next notch up with the kids.Screw walking to go to the john or shower. I'll try to search better later Monday night or Tuesday for a decent place. Right now there's at least 2 rooms with 2 beds at the York PA Motel 6 for $45.99 ea./night.That's a good 40 minute ride to Carlisle but not a bad one on a Saturday or Sunday morning. Apparently the Carlisle-H'burg Motel 6 was booked, but the plain old Harrisburg one had one room w/2 beds left for $55.99 I think. Check the links and any searches and let me know where we all might meet up. http://www.netbooker.com/booker/AppLogic+booker.hotel.book.AvailResp Super * in Carlisle (one of two but one is booked up) YIKES! http://www.super8.com/Super8/control/Booking/check_avail http://www.super8.com/Super8/control/Booking/search_check

Subafreak
A hotel would be nice, but they seem to be going fast. I would go for the camping spot but I have no tent and I really like to take warm showers in the morning. I guess I better start looking for a hotel room real soon. Can we sleep in our cars?:-\
Meeky Moose
i wanted to go cheap.. the motels i found were $179 to over $200 just for friday and sat night... so i opted for campin out.. big thanks to Scott!
moosens
No way Tony, you've got to shop around.Harrisburg is plenty close,as is York.Check those area out.I found rooms from $45 *yes,on the weekends to*. Motel 6 had several single rooms left and at lease one 2 bed at the H'burg location. The Carlisle/H'burg location also had like 2 single rooms left, but no double bed rooms. If you wake up in York or Harrisburg you're only about 15-40 minutes away depending on your location. It's a fairly quiet area to me so even the state routes are fluent and very nice to drive on a Saturday/Sunday morning. Yes,we slept in our cars last year at Pinchot St. Park.Got there and it was soaked, still raining, late, and who the heck wants to pitch a tent on wet grass for 6-8 hours sleep??Paid for the site of course, but if things are really tight and hey, you're single....just go there and do the car thing.THe showers should be running.Might want to call and check.Gifford Pinchot St.Park is highly recommended in good weather. Meeky Moose
i checked all of motel 6's websites and searches and such.. it was ridiculous in pricing, and harissburg and york only had 1 room left.. i didn't feel like spending $200 for a couple nights to sleep on a bed.. a tent and a sleepin bag and i'll be just fine.. besides i don't think a north face tent will leak

Meeky Moose
i still gotta buy a tent.. but thinkin a 4 person 9x9 tent will do.. in case someone needs a place to crash... Jules will most likely be crashin in my tent as well.. hey Scott, know of any good army surplus places to get a cold weather bag? i used to have 2 of them rated at minus 60 but they are long gone now.. moosens
Yeah, you're probably right.I should have pitched the tent and gotten everything soaked instead of staying dry and healthy.I should have taken the Army approach,no doubt. I camp, got all the goodies to prove it.But I also have common sense and a family to get back to.When I arrive and it's 11PM,38 degrees, raining and my wagon suits me just fine there's no thinking twice about it. Cheers. At this point I'll be concentrating on getting my wagon fit for the trip.Any restoration effort is out of the question this year before Carlsile. It'll have to win Best Unrestored Japanese Car or Truck Award. Good luck with everything and I'll check in now and then.

Chongo
In all the years I've done Civil War Re-encating when I was unable to hook up with my own outfit (for various reasons), I always put a nice bedding down in the back of my '86 GL wagon and slept there. Did that in the filming of "Gods and Generals" and was very cozy with a good sleeping bag. Since I'll be by myself at Carlisle, I'll do that again....No prob.......My question is, are we gonna park our Soobs in one spot at the camping area, or are the cars going to be placed in a different location from the campsites??????? Any feedback on this let me know............Chongo
subarubrat
You have some options there. First off, assuming that people get registered and that we have a club area... The camping spots are 30x10 and intended for motorhomes or tent camping. I intend on leaving the truck in the show field and then setting up camp in the camping area near the showers and facilities. I am sharing my camp plot with three other people since it is so large. I am sure you could just drive down and park in the camp plots area. Chongo
Ok that sounds fine to me......I've got no prob w/ the camping deal, I've got a dinky one-man-er that I can use if need be, but have never minded sleeping in the back of my Soob, reminds me of the girl I bought it from...........Ha Ha

I think with a lawn chair coushion the back of the wagon would make a good tent.
subarubrat
What I did was "divide" my 10x30 plot into 3 10x10 spaces. Two of them are taken, one is not. If you feel you can park in a 10x10 space then it is yours for the asking.
Subafreak
Shame on me if I can't park that thing in a 10x10 space. (we are talking feet right?) Consider that spot mine, please and thank you.
