Ej22 - no charcoal canister?

Recommended Posts

Should I look for the intake from an impreza? Or a Legacy?

either one as long as it is from an ej22, but if impreza avoid 95. they were still OBD1 in 95, i think. i know the ej18 was OBD1 in 95. i don't KNOW that it wouyld make a difference but why take the chance.

so imp 96 - 97 or lego 95 - 97.

(in thinking about it, 97 may match your car the best.)

around here they run about $65 - $75.

I just called Chuck and Eddie's. The guy said he has an intake but wouldn't go take a look to see if it has the charcoal canister ports on it. When I asked who/when could confirm that he hung up on me. Not cool.

Contrast this with F&S who called me in response to an email. The guy was pleasant, nice and patient.

Guess who I will buy it from even if they have a higher price?

Follow up:

I went to the garage today and identified the purge valve solenoid. I found a host going from it directly into a metal line sort of behind the power steering pump. I rigged a rubber host from the purge solenoid into the charcoal canister, and then another rubber line from the exit of the charcoal canister into the metal line behind the power steering pump.

Does this sound right?

Not quite. I'm dog tired and getting over a cold though so it might be right and I can't picture it. :-p I'll take a picture of my two cars tomorrow and show you where to run the lines.

Quick note: the EJ22 I put into my OBW came from a '95 Impreza LX, and had all the right guts for OBDII.

And a request: if someone has the vacuum diagrams for these cars it would be WONDERFUL to have a thread containing them. I got my car working with the suggestions given here, although right now it has two canisters (front and rear behind wheel) and there's a hose plugged with a screw attached with electrical tape to the intake manifold. I didn't remove it before installing the manifold because I didn't have all the information I needed (i.e. the EJ22 diagram), and now it's very difficult to the the job right :(
