xFoo
I need to replace the bellow boots on my 97 Legacy. I ran across this product, Raksock & Rakboot, and thought it looked cool. Anybody have any experience with the product? Does being "Universal" have a severe downside? Thanks for sharing your thoughts on the matter or experience with the product. porcupine73
I haven't tried that product. Those boots will run you about $25 each for the genuine part, so I guess there is a possible small savings in using the Rakboot. There's always a downside in 'universal fit' products, because for many applications that means 'almost fits' or can be made to fit but maybe not quite right. The secret to getting the boot over the rack end is silicone spray.
idosubaru
I guess there is a possible small savings in using the Rakboot. i think this product is more of a time thing. you don't have to remove the tie rod or worry about alignment to install the boot. only one nut to get the tie rod off and install a normal boot, so it's not saving as much benefit but maybe for rust prone areas where that thing is a beast it would be helpful for the home mechanic without a good selection of tools (or a torch!). porcupine73
Oh ok I missed that in the product description. That would be a little easier if you don't have to loosen the jam nut and take the outer end off and count the turns.
