Hi, this is my first post :)

I have a 1993 Legacy Wagon, Auto tranny, with 198,000 miles on it. I have this problem where when I stop (either at a stoplight or a stop sign, sometimes even when it's in park), the engine revs up on it's own. Now, most of the time, it's not significant, only between 500-1000 RPM, but like 1 out of every 20 times it'll jump up to 2500 RPM. It'll sometimes stop doing this, maybe on an extended car trip, but it does it more times than not and it's starting to worry me. The worst part about it is that, it sounds like that the engine is struggling to operate, under any condition (heat/no heat, defogger on/off, fuel at any level). I'm hoping to at least get the next 6 months out of this car, since I'm a senior in High School and money is extremely tight at the moment, but it's starting to seem unlikely this thing will last another month.

Any advice would be extremely helpful.

Thank you! :D

you are incorrect as it will last forever! just soe simple maintenance trcks will keep it up.

do some searching on Idle air control valve (IAC) and the coolant temp sensor, as your symptoms are classic of that. The iac can be cleaned easily once you locate it.

Ok. Thanks! Although, while I take pretty good care of it, it was treated like absolute garbage by the previous owner.

IF it's not broken already you can preserve it into antiquity. Its an easy car to service compared to other makes
