Skylar
so if ive got a 15 gallon tank and im using a half tank to go 110 miles im getting like 15 mpg !!! my temp sensor should arrive tomorrow. and i looked at the old one and its all green and coroded. hopefully i dont need to replace any of the wire that leads to the green connection piece. any ideas on how i can get some better mpg ?! the motor leaks a decent amount of oil to, could that have anything to do with it ? jdemaris
so i drive a 110 miles round trip a day for work. and im getting 22 mpg seems really low. Maybe I missed it somewhere, but have no idea on what you are driving. I've been driving Loyales for years, carbed and fuel injected with little difference in fuel mileage. All my 1.8 liter 4WD wagons with five-speed manual trans got 26-29 MPG on highway driving. All my 4WD 1.8 liter wagons with those God-awful three-speed automatics and "fake" 4WD got 20-22 MPG at best. My 85 wagon with auto got exactly the same lousy MPGs as my 93 wagon with auto. I'm still driving my 92 4WD wagon with a 5 speed and it's gotten 29 MPG at times and 27-28 more the usual. Note that the cold-temp sensor was bad for a year and had no effect on fuel mileage. Just made it difficult to drive when first started and cold. But mine was running lean when cold, not rich when hot.

Skylar
So i got my temp sensor today and i went to oreillys. got the other temp sensor with the 1 terminal on it, an air filter, a pcv valve, plugs, wires, t-stat housing gasket. and i pulled some of my pcv hoses, the ones from both sides of the motor then connected to the plastic fittin then to the pcv valve. and they're all really hard and solid, hoses and fittings are caked with gunk. some drops of creamy colored oil actually came out of the fitting. i plan on replacing most of these hoses and some fuel lines. and cleaning all of the plastic fittings the best i can, couldnt find any to match at oreillys . anyone know where to get the hoses that come off the left and ride side of the motor ? i belive theyre the on top of the valve covers ? and is there 2 fuel filters on my car ? ( 88 gl spfi 5 sp d/r ) i replaced the one thats under the hood . i was also reading a post earlier about the fuel pump and it hearing it prime when you first turn the car on. i dont hear mine prime or click at all when i turn my car over. its been my dd for the past month ive had it . so maybe theres just fuel in the lines all the time and i dont hear it prime ? any input would be appreciated. thanks guys
danzick
i have the same car, i get 22 to 24 mpg on the high way. i do a lot of hill climbing and its deep into the throttle to maintain 70mph, i dont think your too far off. one fuel filter, i believe they got rid of the second filter with the throttle body. i also have the 3 speed auto, and its 4500 rpms to go 70, thats what kills me! That sounds about right. Ben is at 4000 rpm when cruising at around 66 mph. He usually gets around 25 mpg and he is very well maintained. *edit* Just read through entirely and saw what car I'm comparing to. Ben is a 3speed auto, My GL is a 5 speed though and I'm surprised to hear the mileages you guys record with them. I usually get 30+ mpg in my GL on the highway. I've hit half a tank with over 250 miles on the trip odometer, regularly. Just seems strange....though my car does only have 57,000 miles. AKghandi
I used to deliver pizzas in my gl10turbo, all day boosting my rump roast off drifting all that good stuff in 4x4 and I still managed 23mpg. I love turbos.

oleman77
so i drive a 110 miles round trip a day for work. and im getting 22 mpg seems really low. im spending about 20 a day to get to work and back. and i believe i have a 10 gallon tank ? just got a new cat put on, cleaned maf and plugged back in the o2 sensor. new fuel filter. im driving at freeway speeds between 60 and 75. can i anybody give me some ideas on what to do ? it also doesnt want to stay started in the morning, i have to keep it revved at 3000 for a bit. then it idles low until it warms up. timing off a tooth ? I have an EA82 and drive hwy/town mix. I have a Weber and opened up my exhaust. I get 30MPG. Not sure what environmental testing is done in WA but in NM we don't have to pass emissions testing so not having a cat is no problem. New Weber around 300 bucks and would pay for itself in around 38 days of driving if I did my math right. By installing a Weber you could take all that smog crap off (if your state will allow) and you should see a huge improvement....

Here in Wa you don't have to go through emissions after your car is 25 years old . So I think I did my last test last year since I have an 88 . I bought a stock exhaust with the mid pipe cat deleted and an 18" glass pack w/ 2.5" tip so that opened her up quite a bit and gives her a nice Subie growl lol Oh and I'm F.I. but thanks for the info on the weber
