2.2 thrust bearing question

Recommended Posts

I have a ej2.2e out of a 96 legacy, I am using it in a pusher type airplane, it uses a redrive to power the prop (the redrive uses a planetary gear set to turn the prop on a ratio or 1.85 to 1) I discovered that I have about .1875 crank end play, I understand that it should be no more than .002 so it is obvious that my thrust bearings are worn out. How difficult is this to repair? can someone point me to a post that coveres this procedure? thanks for you help

replacing the thrust bearing would most certainly entail splitting the block.

what type of aircraft are you using this in? Experimental?

was there and STC that governed installation and use?

is the company that provided the planetary gear drive making any suggestions for fixing the problem?

Thanks Tractor pole for replying.

I'm using this 2.2 as a pusher on a gyroplane. It has been in service for over 200 hours on this gyro. These motors have been used on gyro's for over 20 years with great success. This gyro is an experimental. There is no recomendation from the redrive manufacturer. The redrive is a Ross redrive used on experimental airplanes and gyro's. I'm assuming if I have to split the case I might as well do a complete overhaul...I'll search the forum for good threads concerning overhauls, if you have knowledge of a good thread please let me know! Thanks, Steve
